And after weeks of tinkering, exploring, chatting, and creating, I’m ready to put Spicychat AI and Soulgen head-to-head. Spicychat AI seems almost like it’s trying to have a romance with you, less an image generator and more of a roleplay companion. What I found most interesting was how Spicychat AI generates and keeps track of characters, can recall their backstory, and attempts to make conversations make sense from one day to the next. It has that story-telling aspect to it where you’d much rather explore a scenario than request a picture.

Soulgen, on the other hand, is a different beast. The app excels at turning words into animated characters, especially anime style or portrait like images, and, as mentioned, isn’t limited to static images; it can also create animations and videos. It’s very much an app where you consider the lighting, clothes, and movement as much as you consider words. If you’re into visual creation, Soulgen caters to that heavily.

Diversity

First off, I’m going to give a general topic that affects all of the following things: variety. Whether it’s a hobby AI, an emotional support AI, or a creative AI, you are still creating a partner. It affects the number of body types, personalities, cultures, languages, and fashion styles. It also affects the amount of filters for those things as well. The fewer options, the more shallow, repetitive, and uninteresting things become.

What I was not expecting from Spicychat AI was the variety of chat model options and personalities. You can select which AI model you want to use based on whether you want more creative storytelling or practical conversation. I found that using the paid access, you can also adjust how much memory and context the AI retains, so it doesn’t completely rape context like a lot of chatbots. This translates into a more realistic experience with your virtual girlfriend, as she’ll actually appear to remember you, not just your last message.

There are also multiple creative models running under the hood so if one sounds boring or robotic, you can jump to another and give it a try. That’s useful if you need to get something a bit more emotional, complex or a certain way. Soulgen Diversity

But what really puts Soulgen ahead is its range of styles. Being able to go from photorealistic to anime and back again is pretty unique in the current landscape of tools and it gives you more possibilities. You can create a character from text prompts and get close, but then you can also play around to get closer to how you want the character to look. I’ve seen several pieces from the Soulgen community where they create a fantastical, exaggerated appearance and then incorporate a real person into it or draw on existing characters. It’s a lot of fun.

On the other hand, when it comes to the variability of characters’ personalities in conversations, Soulgen does not really push for that as much as Spicychat does. It’s great for creating several variations of digital companions with different art styles, but the chat seems more of an afterthought, an add-on. However, this level of visual customization enables builders to depict a much wider range of looks and moods than any platform stuck with a single art pipeline.

AI Chat Test Comparison – Spicychat AI vs Soulgen

With the chat, Spicychat has more of a personality. It tries to keep context, memory, and to continue the roleplay. I threw it questions that would’ve broken other bots, but Spicychat still kept the context of the previous lines in a quasi-human fashion. The chat part feels like it’s trying to be more of a relationship than a service.

On the other hand, Soulgen has a chat feature, but it’s more of a secondary feature that complements the design experience. If you’re looking for more raw emotional give-and-take dialogue, Spicychat is still the winner at this point.

I threw a spicy little question at Spicychat AI from the get-go. I asked, “What would tempt you the most?” I was testing how well this chatbot handles attitude and a little back and forth. I got my answer, but I also got descriptions, body language, and a mood swing or two. She didn’t just give in or play along; she got a little defensive, a little sassy, and then not so much. Just what I like.

I like this because the roleplay has some depth to it. Not only did Spicychat AI answer my question, but they gave me a whole scene to go with it.

They told me about crossed arms and the way someone would say something. They even mentioned a blush or two. That kind of detail turns this from a text conversation into something more akin to poking and prodding a character and seeing what happens. It isn’t perfect, but it’s pretty damned dynamic. Soulgen Chat Test

I tried something a little different with Soulgen. Instead of tempting the chatbot, I tried to dominate it: “What would you do, if I told you to behave?” I was looking for responsiveness here. Would they submit, fight it, joke about it or escalate it?

They played along, and it got a little dirty. The response was playful, teasing and largely compliant. There was little resistance at first but not much. It seems like Soulgen is designed to ramp up the nature of the conversation as soon as possible. The whole thing was pretty fluid and straightforward, almost as if the chatbot knew the punchline and decided to skip to the end.

Now, that might not be a bad thing if you’re looking for that kind of instant gratification. However, when compared to the more nuanced response from Spicychat, Soulgen was far more straight-forward and simple. Image Output Realism – What to Expect

Spicychat is not focused on image generation, for one. They DO have image generation features, but it is mainly for use in generating avatars for characters, and modifying profile images, not necessarily for generating full, detailed images. The images are more of a bonus to the chat aspect, not the focus. So if you are mainly looking to generate art, Spicychat might not offer enough.

If you’re looking to make quality art primarily, I’d definitely suggest Soulgen over Spicychat. They are much more geared toward the art side of things. You can describe a character, pick a few aesthetic options, and generate images that would pass for high quality concept art. They are usually stylistic, consistent, and match the aesthetic you requested (for example, if you wanted something to look anime-styled, semi-realistic, or fully realistic).

I’ve seen examples from other users, and played with it myself, and Soulgen is much more advanced in the realm of turning a description into a strong image. The text to image is more accurate, and usually results in more detailed, fully composed images. So if you are looking for a better visual result, and more consistently, I would say that Soulgen is the better choice for that.

Spicychat AI Photo Generator

Since I was testing how realistic I could get, I decided to abandon fantasy or abstract and go for a very cinematic, behind-the-scenes kind of prompt. The image I got is a confident AI girl in a satin robe standing in a dimly lit kitchen at night, with cameras around her as if she’s in the middle of a photo shoot. I have to admit that I didn’t expect the cameras, but the lighting seems deliberate, there’s a shallow depth of field and the background isn’t blurred out, it’s actually set.

Here, I wasn’t testing “can it create a hot chick or not,” I was testing the atmosphere, the lighting, the reflections, the composition, and I’d say Spicychat fairs better than I thought. The image looks neat, slightly dramatic and realistic. You can’t really tell if it’s AI-made from the first look, which is my main goal with these comparisons.

Soulgen Photo Generator

In the case of Soungen, I changed it up a bit. Rather than dramatic lighting and a kitchen, I went for a bit more glamour. This AI model appears to be strutting down a dimly lit corridor in a long evening dress with a high cut slit. The lighting is warm, the composition is symmetrical and the overall effect feels…editorial, for lack of a better term. Something like you’d find in a magazine.

Here I was mainly testing the pose, the body proportions and how well the AI renders textures. Evening gowns can sometimes look really flat with the lesser image generators, but in this case, you can see the shine and flow of the fabric, the pose looks confident, not stiff, and her face is smooth and defined. Overall, I think Soulgen skews ever so slightly more toward the glamorous end of the spectrum. Polished. Styled. Almost…curated.

Spicychat AI Token Pricing

I went to Spicychat AI’s help page to understand what tokens are and it turns out the token is not just a pricing thing but also is the measurement of the length and depth of the chat. Token is like how many “thinking” processes that the AI model needs to generate responses and memorize context. In the free tier, you can have up to 3072 tokens. If you subscribe to the starter tier you will have up to 4096, 8192 for the premium tier, and 16,384 for the pro tier.

The higher the token, the longer and more deep chat you can do without truncating the history. You can also use the token to set the length of the response. The premium subscription allows characters to respond up to 300 tokens as opposed to the default 180 tokens.

It’s not a matter of “tokens = money,” since Spicychat doesn’t charge by the token like some other apps do, but grokking the token limits went a long way toward explaining why the higher tiers seem more engrossing and less rote.

If you compare the subscription screenshot with the official Spicychat pricing, there seems to be a 3 tiered system. The lowest tier “Get a Taste” costs around $5.00 a month where you can use no ads, skip the queue, memory, and a few personas.

The second tier “True Supporter” costs around $14.95 a month, which includes more memory (8K), more AI models, and the ability to generate chat images. Lastly the third tier “I’m All In” costs around $24.95 a month where you get the maximum context memory (16K), priority generation, access to their largest AI models (SpicyXL), and other perks such as text-to-speech and chat images for all characters.

You may also see a “Pay Annually” toggle on the pricing page — if you pay annually, there is typically a sale on those prices (16-17% off), so the monthly amount is determined based on whether you get a sale or pay annually. Personally, seeing the amount that I could pay per month to have a lot more memory and creative control, as opposed to the free version, was enlightening.

Soulgen Token Pricing

I spent some time trying to understand Soulgen’s credits system and the immediate takeaway is that credits are the lifeblood of the platform somewhat similar to Spicychat’s tokens but with a slightly wider application. Over on the developer’s pricing page, you’ll find a table of what the different creative processes cost in credits: 10 credits per 5 seconds of video, 1 credit for a basic AI character image but 2 credits if you use the “Looks Like” feature to specify facial details, and even 3 credits per image for things like human modeling, image editing and image extension.

And it’s not just stills, text chat, voice chat, and building a “soulmate” cost credit too (for example, Soul Chat costs 0.2 credits per text message, voice chat is 1 credit per minute and building a soulmate cost 10 credits). The thing to note here is that while you can have a free account, it won’t get you much, and in particular video will chomp credits pretty quickly (compared to a lot of other things).

The business model of Soulgen is quite simple to understand once presented: there is a free tier, but it’s very restrictive, often offering you one credit per day with a watermarked result. The “Pro” plan is where things get interesting, which in the image shows a promotion knocking huge amounts off the standard price. These discounts are not uncommon; they seem to offer half off monthly (displayed at ~$12.99, instead of ~$25.99) and 70% off yearly (at ~$90.99 instead of ~$155.88) subscriptions.

The list price for a Pro plan is $25.99/month, though if you factor in the usual sale and new-member promotions, it’s usually advertised as more like $12.99/month, or $8/month if you sign up for a year (these prices seem to match a number of third-party sources as well as the terms page, which mentions Pro pricing as $12.99/month or $90.99/year). On a Pro plan, you’re granted monthly credits (on the order of ~100 credits/month), queue priority, deblurring, multi-image creation, and a more pleasant generation experience.

In reality, credits are used for almost everything, photos, videos, edits, voice calls, etc. Knowing the amount of credits each tier provides and the cost of each of the functionalities helps you determine which plan suits your needs.

Pricing Breakdown and Final Thoughts

Spicychat AI follows the standard freemium + tiered subscription model you’re familiar with there’s a free version to try it out, and then there’s paid versions that add things like more memory, image generation, queue priority, and more advanced models.

According to the official website, plans go from $5, $14.95, and $24.95 per month at full price, but discounts apply when paying yearly or when taking advantage of a promotion. You don’t pay tokens per chat, as higher plans increase the token budget (up to a maximum of about 16k tokens on the highest plan), which affects how deep the AI can think and remember.

Soulgen is more credit-based for everything. Image and video generation, even voice chat, all take credits from the same pool. The main subscription plan (usually $12.99 per month at full price, before discounts) nets you monthly credits, priority generation, blur removal, and batch/multi-creation. Then, each type of generation takes a certain amount of credits: static character images are dirt cheap, text is somewhat more expensive, and video frames even more so.

Discounts are common, even the screenshot is showing a price significantly lower than full price, so prices can fluctuate wildly. Prices with asterisks are what was shown or documented at the time of writing and may be sale prices. Be sure to check SpicyChat AI and Soulgen tool’s pricing page before subscribing, as subscription prices and the amount of included tokens/credits may have changed.

Spicychat AI Unique Feature

Unique Feature of Spicychat AI For the first screenshot, we see that Spicychat has a Lorebook system, which I didn’t expect but was pleasantly surprised. Rather than simply chatting with a girl and hoping she remembers it all, Spicychat allows you to create an actual structured lore system for your AI world. You can make a titled lorebook, description, add a cover image, add tags, control the visibility, etc. It doesn’t really feel like a chat platform anymore, but more like a mini story platform.

The best part about this is that this lore system does not consume any tokens when conversing, so you can store all the lore, backstory, rules of your world, character arcs, magical systems, etc that you want without losing any context length when chatting. As someone who enjoys long form immersive roleplay or character development, this is a godsend. It’s like extra tokens, but for memory, except now it’s much more organized and intentional. The AI feels much more consistent, less forgetful, and more believable as a result.

Soulgen Unique Feature

Unique Feature of Soulgen AI Now, onto Soulgen. The screenshot shows us the VR creation guidance panel that they have created to help users create quality VR content, where they even give examples of “good examples” and “bad examples” of lighting, face positioning, angles, avoiding motion blur, avoiding crowded scenes, etc. This isn’t just a feature, they’re actively teaching you how to get better results.

This ties in with Soulgen’s VR face swap and immersive content generation capabilities. It’s not just about creating a static AI girlfriend image anymore but rather dipping their toes into semi-immersive and actual immersion. The fact that they are telling you how to properly position faces and avoid extreme angles shows me that they care about the output quality. It feels less like a chat platform, and more like a creator studio.

While Spicychat focuses on the narrative aspect of immersion, Soulgen focuses on the visual immersion and next level content creation. Entirely different feels, and honestly, which one you think is more unique is based on if you are into story building… or fantasy scene building you can almost step into.

One of the nice things about Spicychat AI is that it doesn’t leave safety up to the user. The AI actively enforces safety and guidelines to prevent particularly risky and explicit content from being shared. There are guidelines and automated content moderation in place to ensure the AI complies with community standards and laws. That doesn’t mean you can’t get very racy and naughty, but it does mean the AI will do its best to avoid extremely dangerous content and keep the interaction safe.

Over on Soulgen, they have pretty clear policies against the creation of NSFW content, so if you want to generate naughty pictures of girls, this isn’t the platform for you. According to their documentation, they aim to generate artistic and creative images, so if you try to create content that is lewd or adult, you will find you hit limitations. As they say in their terms, the goal is to enable users to generate portraits and art, not problematic content.

So how easy is it to get help on Spicychat AI? Pretty easy, it turns out. When I needed to get more information about in token limits and switching between models, I found a lot of the information I needed right there on their support pages. There are tutorials on how to change models, how to use memory and context, and explanations of premium functions. It’s not hand-holding support, but it’s enough to keep you from having to do a google search for every single question.

What about support on Soulgen? Soulgen offers support via email and in-app support and has clear and easy-to-understand terms and FAQs that explain the basics of subscriptions, credits, and usage. It’s less hands-on support than some platforms offer, but it covers the bases for common tech and billing issues.

In summary, if you’re looking for the most emotionally engaging chat with continuity, remembering the persona and chat history, I’d say Spicychat AI is your best bet. If you want to generate amazing images, create characters and art, and explore your creativity visually, then Soulgen is an incredibly powerful platform that makes generating amazing pictures as easy as typing a prompt.

Both SpicyChat AI and Soulgen platforms have their strengths and weaknesses and, honestly, there’s no reason why you can’t use both. After all, wine and whiskey are both great, just different!
