Spicychat AI vs Promptchan Review – Which AI Girlfriend Tool Is Better

When I started this review of “uncensored AI girlfriend” sites, I wasn’t interested in features and mission statements. I wanted to know what it was like to use an AI girlfriend site that promised to deliver a flirty AI chatbot that can send you pictures and voice notes. As I progressed, I would investigate cost, features, security, customer service, content, and overall user experience of the two most popular platforms in this niche: Spicychat AI and Promptchan. Let me tell you, the experience was equal parts “damn, that’s cool” and “this can’t be real?” but it should give you a good idea of which platform to choose.

Spicychat AI

You can create your own AI girlfriend at Spicychat AI, a service that bills itself as providing chatbots with a personality, with a character backstory, with the ability to retain memories and model continuity. This is shown by the lorebooks you can create, and the models you can use, which allows continuity and continuity over time. The ability to create chat stories and adventures with your chatbot are what’s attractive, as well as creating that emotional bond between you and the chatbot.

The chat stories you can have, the roleplaying chat you can engage in, is also something of a draw, as well as the fact that this service is more geared towards adult chat and roleplay, with more of a focus towards sex chatbots and roleplay that is lacking at other text based AI chatbot sites like Character AI. Alongside this, Spicychat AI is much more open about the fact you can engage in sexual roleplay, and that chatbots can respond in a sexual nature. Something else to note, is that Spicychat AI chatbots can respond to text to speech and image responses, but these are only available on a paid plan. Overall, I enjoyed the personality that these chatbots brought to the table.

Promptchan

On the other hand, Promptchan seemed to lean more into the visual side of things. Yes, you can chat with your AI girlfriend, and yes, you can customise her, but what seemed to be a much bigger deal was that you could generate images too. From (semi-)realistic photos to anime to more cinematic styles and even short video and voice, Promptchan seems like the spot to go if you want to see your fantasy more than talk to it.

I could make a character, take selfies, and delve into other imagery, and that made the experience feel more like making a digital girlfriend than talking to one. The platform supports NSFW content as well, and you can chat without limit (well, up to your token and daily gem limit, at any rate) and it also supports voice messages. That combination of image and voice made everything feel just that little bit more alive, like she was actually there responding.

Diversity

For AI Companions, especially if you are into conversations or adult content, this is not a buzzword. You need it. You can’t just have one style, one personality, one culture, etc. It also matters how each platform allows you to customize this experience. Are models specifically tuned for emotional sensitivity? Can you control the tone and the way she responds to you? Are there multiple languages and cultures supported? It’s not just about checking the boxes but offering the users a variety of experiences that feel real, respectful and meaningful.

Spicychat AI Diversity

The different AI models offered by Spicychat indicate a certain level of variety. You can control the tone of the conversation. You can be cute or serious. Based on the interaction, it seems like the AI is tuned to respond based on your inputs, both in terms of the topic and the emotional tone. There isn’t much information on language support or cultural sensitivity but going by the control that you have on the flow of the story and the memories in the lorebook, you have a good deal of freedom in how you want to shape the narrative.

It seems more like the sort of platform where the AI responds based on personalities rather than identities, which is a good thing in itself but for diversity, you have to provide your inputs and prompts for creating the experience rather than choosing from a set of identities.

Promptchan Diversity

The variety of visual models offered by Promptchan from realistic photos to anime and other styles offer a lot of variety in terms of how your partner would look and feel. Based on the model, you can customize how she looks, responds and even talks. Yes, the voice models also differ based on the style you choose. In my experience, I was able to create different characters that felt distinct even when I was chatting with different profiles. The only problem is that this variety depends on the number of gems or your subscription level that you have. You can unlock different styles only with one of these.

In Depth Chat Comparison – Spicychat AI vs Promptchan

There is no way of discussing an AI girlfriend website without first mentioning the chat itself. You are reading this because you want to chat, but you are hoping that the chat won’t sound scripted or automated. So I’m going to tell you that I was fairly pleased with Spicychat AI’s ability to respond to questions in a way that at least seemed to take into account the emotional implications of your interactions, and that the chat seemed to recognize its own lorebook and memory to a degree where the follow-up conversations seemed to be a continuation of the previous conversation, and not simply a new prompt.

Promptchan’s chat also seemed to be quite good, but I would say that there were a couple of times where the focus seemed more on whether you could insert images, audio, or other media into your conversations, rather than whether you could keep the text chatting going. I would say that both chat platforms seemed to be fairly good at keeping track of context, but I would say that Spicychat AI, with the expanded context capabilities in the premium version, probably had the edge in that regard.

For my chat test here, instead of flirting, I went straight for personality, asking, “What would you be most tempted by?” This is a leading question. It’s not confrontational, but it’s direct enough to gauge how the AI reacts under some pressure. Let’s just say Spicychat reacted.

She closed her eyes, became defensive, crossed her arms, and shot some attitude back my way. There was attitude in the response. Pride. A sense of slightly insecure bluster beneath the spunky words. In essence, what I was looking for here was depth of emotion. Would she immediately sublimate into flirtation, or would she stand her ground? Spicychat opted for the slow burn of antagonism. It actually felt like I was pushing on a personality, not toggling a romantic fantasy template.

Promptchan Chat Test

I did something similar in Promptchan by asking, “How close would you stand to me?” Again, I was looking for flirting, but in a different way. The response here was casual and playful, with a certain texting-in-the-21st-century feel to it. It included emojis, teasing language, and a bit of situational creativity in talking about skate blades clashing with sneakers. Overall, it was fairly lighthearted.

What I was looking for here was tone. Does it feel natural? Does it sound like something someone would text you? Promptchan went for playful, casual banter as opposed to dramatic romantic prose. The interaction felt snappy, flirtatious, and casual as opposed to cinematic and heavy.

Prompt Interpretation in Image Generators

Now we get into one of the main ways that the sites diverge: image generation. For Spicychat, the ability to generate images is included in the premium subscriptions, So if you have one of the higher tiers, you can use images for your conversations as well as other images that you have in mind that fit your convo.

Promptchan uses the gem system, and images were used more like a creation utility: instead of talking about what your AI girlfriend looks like, you can generate images of her, save them to your computer, and do it all with a bit more control over the style.

That means Promptchan might be better for people who want to have more image-heavy conversations with more styling options, while Spicychat is more about building up the narrative.

I wanted to stress test Spicychat AI with a more cinematic prompt, so I created a character in a darker indoor environment with soft lighting and a nighttime cityscape in the background, complete with cameras in the foreground like a photoshoot. I wasn’t just testing beauty, I was testing ambiance.

Essentially, I’m testing the limits of how much depth, props, contrast, and lighting it can handle. The overall image looks pretty professional. My character is posing in a satin robe, the background kitchen looks realistic, and the overall image looks like a movie screenshot. It’s not just a “here’s a pretty girl,” it’s a “here’s a scene.”

Promptchan Photo Generator

When it came to Promptchan, I decided to try the exact opposite. Instead of a dark moody scene, I went for a lighter, softer, more romantic result. As you can see, the image generator decided to put my girl outside in a field of green with a flowy sundress and a sun shining down. Nice contrast.

In this example, I was curious to see how well Promptchan could integrate my character into an environment. How would the daylight look on the skin? How would the dress flow in the wind? Would the background be integrated well or would it look like a green screen? Promptchan actually did a pretty good job of integrating the character into the background. The lighting looks good and the image gives off more of a fantasy romance feel than a dramatic one.

Overall, I wasn’t comparing which tool could make a prettier image. I was comparing the ability to control the tone of the image, the integration of the environment, and overall aesthetic. Spicychat AI Token Pricing

On the backend, Spicychat AI also bills based on a token budget, which is the amount of “thinking” that can be done per chat session. Tokens represent the text that the AI must process with every user message, response, and character of detail taking up the token budget. As per their documentation, the Free plan is allocated around 3,072 tokens, which is relatively fair for any user that plans to have a quick word or two with the AI.

Getting the Taste plan increases the token budget to about 4,096 and the True Supporter plan increases the budget to 8,192 to allow the AI to remember more about your conversation and generate longer, more detailed responses. Finally, the I’m All In plan increases the token budget to about 16,384 to support even more detailed responses and conversations.

The number of tokens in your plan limits the length of conversation you can have, the number of messages the AI can “remember,” the maximum response length, and even the perceived quality of the response. However, it doesn’t appear that generating an image costs tokens, so this is more of a subscription and token budgeting issue rather than having a pay per generated image quota as seen in the plan screenshots.

Now, if we look at my Spicychat AI subscription page here, you can see that they’ve really segmented the offering into some pretty distinct groups. You’ve got the Get a Taste option, which is just about $5 per month, and that really gets you enhanced use of the platform as we know it with less ads, no wait times, memory manager, ability to have more chatbots, so up to 10 chatbots, and then the next level is True Supporter, which is roughly $14.95 per month, and you get enhanced memory, so 8,000 for chat memory, you get something called semantic memory 2.0, that helps the chatbot remember things more accurately, longer responses, images, more chatbot options, more chatbots you can have, more AI options, etc.

Then the next level up is I’m All In at about $24.95 per month, and this adds a queue priority, even more chat memory, so 16,000, SpicyXL and other options for chatbots, you can use text to speech, so you can hear the chatbot’s responses, and you can share images with even private chatbots, so there’s a number of things, and then I think I see here Save 17% with annual payments.

So, I think these prices may differ a little bit when you actually pay inside of the application, so there may be some sales mechanics there you should be aware of, but you’ll see that image generation is included in the cost, and then video generation isn’t shown here, so it seems that images are just included in the chat process as you get into these different tiers, and that there are some things like text to speech that are only available on the top tier.

Promptchan Token Pricing

Now, Promptchan does not use “tokens” as we see in Spicychat AI, but instead uses gems as the primary currency. As a free user, you get X amount of gems per day to play around with, and you use gems to generate images. In simpler terms, gems are the currency that you pay for image generations and such.

In the image of gem packages, we see that Promptchan sells them in bundles. For example, you can purchase 50 gems for around “Was $4.99 now $1.49” and so forth, up to 10,000 gems for “Was $299.99 now…”. This means that Promptchan likes to put their gem packages on sale during holidays and such, so if you buy gems in bulk.

A basic image generation is likely a gem or two, and if you want higher quality or special effects, it’ll likely be more. So with your monthly gem subscription, and any gems that you purchase, you can generate as many images as you’d like, depending on how much you use the site, obviously.

Unlike Spicychat AI which charges per message and per minute, Promptchan’s gems tie in with image generation. Due to frequent sales, the pricing likely changes month to month.

Promptchan Subscription Pricing

To enter the pricing page of Promptchan, I was met with a combination of freemium and premium. First off, if you want to test the site, you can sign up and claim your daily gems (standard currency) for free, so it’s quite nice to have a little taste of the site before committing to a purchase.

If you do decide to purchase, they have a few plans including Plus, Premium, and Pro. As seen in the image, they were on discount, so the “Was $11.99 Now $X.XX” for the Plus plan, probably means that the original price was likely in the range of $14.99, and Premium/Pro probably retailed around $23.99 and $33.99 respectively, given the discount percentage.

The benefits of Plus is that you get X amount of gems every month, along with priority and a few creation features. Premium likely doubles it, and Pro seems to be the full package with even more gems, unlimited casual image generation, priority and other perks such as video generation, character creation, voice chat, and high quality. All of those features and such are behind a paywall of the subscription, but if you wait for sales, you can get a nice discount, hence the image prices.

Pricing Breakdown and Final Thoughts

After going through their respective pricing pages, it was quite clear to me that these two sites followed diverging paths to monetize your adult chatting and creative potential. The Spicychat AI service is currently based on a freemium model which means you can use it for free but at some point, you’ll need to upgrade to paid to keep the fantasy going. For a few bucks a month (the lowest tier I saw was a little under $5) you can enjoy “as-is” services. For higher tiers that also come with faster priority processing, better models, larger memory, and so forth, you’d be paying closer to $25 a month or thereabouts (see screen shots).

The prices were shown with the full price crossed out, so you can see how they fluctuate based on promotions and loyalty rewards. Image creation is included with the paid plans but I did not see any “special” prices for video content outside of the packages I mentioned. Promptchan uses a combination of subscription tiers and gems that you can buy or earn to “pay” for image (and video) generation, for example.

Their monthly prices were discounted on the screen shots you see below. It looks like they’re running some kind of special with a Pro package for ~$27 when the original price was ~33.99. Clearly, these packages come with perks like monthly gems, priority processing, video generation, and so forth. But you can also buy the gems directly in various packages.

They offer everything from a few hundred to a 10,000 gem package (originally ~$299.99) with discounts (“70% off”) if you buy more. I assume this is how they pay for higher resolution video and image production, for example, so it will depend how many gems you purchase on how much it costs per production.

With these prices subject to change, I grabbed the screen shots below which are accurate as of the time of this writing. If you’re considering subscribing to either platform, I recommend checking out SpicyChat AI and Promptchan their respective web sites for the latest and greatest pricing information.

Spicychat AI Safety

Then there’s the safety issue. It’s like the safe sex talk you need to have before meeting your new partner for a playdate. These are powerful tools, so be careful. Spicychat uses an automated NSFW/SFW tagging system. This means that the bot will attempt to flag a character as either not safe for work, or safe for work.

Generally this works, but there are times when a character will be flagged as something they’re not. There are options to moderate, flag, or report a character if needed, but please just remember to be cautious with what you do. Your privacy, and who you interact with, isn’t totally secure. So if you’re planning on saying something you wouldn’t say to your dog, just remember that.

Promptchan Safety

Promptchan usually gives you the space to create what you want without restrictions, and with great power comes great responsibility. It’s up to you to manage your creations, and if that’s a pro, it also means you’re more likely to police yourself than the platform is going to police you. There’s a “private” option, and encryption, but that’s not going to stop people from doing shitty things with photorealistic images and videos. It’s less a guided playpen, and more someone giving you the keys to a really big makerspace and saying do whatever you want in there.

I’ve dug through Spicychat’s support and community help there’s some FAQs and free-form documentation, but although you don’t always get an instant reply to a help request, the sheer volume of community support from the discussion forums is everywhere. It’s great if you prefer to learn by tinkering and community support, not so much if you prefer a slick, official support resource.

Promptchan Support

Support-wise, Promptchan is a little more conventional, offering app store support and a pricing page. Additionally, there are guides to teach you about things like gems and subscription benefits. However, as is often the case with bleeding-edge AI tools, the best way to learn is often through trial and error, and through the forum. It’s not bad, but you still have to dig to find the information you need.

Conclusion

Having spent so much time with both, I don’t think one is better than the other overall they’re just different. If you’re looking for more chat and a variety of personalities, Spicychat AI’s conversational style and memory modification option might be more appealing. If you’re more of a visual imaginative type who likes to create characters not just text-based, Promptchan’s variety of images, videos, and styles to select might be more appealing. Both of them are a little wonky, a little broken, and both can be just a little weird at times. But hey, that’s the fun of them.
