Ourdream vs Soulgen Review – Which AI Girlfriend Tool Is Better

I wasn’t really planning on making a direct comparison between Ourdream and Soulgen when I started testing both of them out. I just kinda… wanted to see what was up with each of them, since they both advertised a lot of the same things: chatting, pictures, videos, voices, etc. But as I started playing around with them, I noticed that there were a lot of little differences in the experience of using them, so I figured it might be helpful to talk about those. So this isn’t a “which one has which features” kind of thing. This is more of a “this is what I liked about each of these platforms” kind of thing.

Ourdream

Ourdream seems to be trying to be less of a “personal AI girlfriend” kind of application and more of a “platform for AI girl creation and interaction”. You can make an AI, publish it, get followers, see how many “views” it’s getting, etc. It’s kinda like the line between AI fantasy and social media is blurred a bit. You’re not just meant to interact with an AI, you’re meant to interact with an AI and have that AI interact with other people, I guess.

The overall tone of the platform seems to be pretty game-like and experimental. They seem to encourage you to try stuff out.

Soulgen

Soulgen seems to be more focused on creating photorealistic content. They have a lot of emphasis on the VR face swap technology they’ve got, there’s a pretty rigid system of credits that you use to pay for the stuff you generate, and just in general they seem to be focusing a lot more on content generation than anything else.

If Ourdream strikes me as game-like, then Soulgen strikes me as professional.

Diversity

Let’s face it. If everyone looks, sounds, and acts identical then after a while it gets dull. You need diversity. Not just in ethnicity and figure, but personality sliders, tone controls, and style filters. You need choices. You need subtlety. You need dials.

Ourdream Diversity

Where Ourdream excels is in its exploratory potential. Thanks to its character creator, you aren’t tied down to the characters it releases. You can look up other people’s creations and search by anything from character sex, release date, and genre. I was able to find timid romantic girls to highly assertive sarcastic ones. It could get disorganised, but it had a nice feeling to it. It was humanising.

The filter isn’t particularly scientific, but it makes sense. You scroll. You find. You bump into something you didn’t expect. That element of surprise adds nuance.

Soulgen Diversity

On the flip side, Soulgens differentiation is more on the visual side. They offer strong customization of your character and the way content is generated. Face swap, modeling mode, photo editing, etc. It’s less about scrolling through your feed and more about creating whatever you want.

It sounds more structured. More polished. A tad less intuitive, but if you have a specific goal in mind, there are plenty of ways to fine-tune your sound with Soulgen.

AI Chat Functionality Showdown

Chat’s also the element that can make these platforms feel vibrant or dead.

Talking to Ourdream feels more fun, and responsive. There is character in her responses. She can be a bit melodramatic at times. A bit flirtatious at others. A tad cheesy at times, but hey, I kinda enjoy it.

Soulgen, on the other hand, seemed a bit more refined. It seemed less wild and more predictable. It performed well under certain contexts, particularly in conjunction with image generation tools. Less social than Ourdream, but refined.

Ourdream Chat Test

For the Ourdream test, I did something similar: only this time, I gave it more of a prompt in the style of romance novel writing, asking what it would whisper in my ear if we were alone together. Again, the response was in the style of a romance novel, sweet, sensual, and dramatic (the “I can barely see the view because all I’m looking at is you” kind of thing).

Here, I was testing the tone and the pacing, as well as the overall feel of the flirt, as I wanted to see if it could be romantic and sexy without feeling out of control. If you want to see how well this one sustained over a full conversation, check out my full Ourdream chat test.

Soulgen Chat Test

I want to start by saying that I used these tests to check how well the AI can engage in romantic/flirt chat, but without giving it a lot of guidance; I basically just wanted to see what would happen, without “priming” it to succeed. For the Soulgen test, I asked the model if it would behave itself, and you can see that it played along and gave me a sassy answer.

Comparing AI Image Quality

It seems like Ourdream links the image generation with the character system. It appears more cohesive. You’re chatting and you’re generating and you’re generating the same character.

“Soulgen feels more defined. I think the model manipulation and editing capabilities give it a bit more of an advantage in terms of definition. It’s more ‘okay, let’s try and create this image’ as opposed to ‘let’s create this and see what we get.’ I think that the photorealism, at least in terms of creating an image where you have total control over everything, seems to be better at times.”

AI Video Generator Comparison – Ourdream vs Soulgen

Video generation refers to the process of creating video content through artificial intelligence. Now, on to the fun stuff: video.

Ourdream packages video creation in the premium package along with credits and voice call minutes. It feels approachable. It feels like it wants you to play with it.

Soulgen has a pay by the second credit system, and you can tell. The format seems more like production. Even with the VR direction. It’s forcing you to consider lighting, angles, frames. It’s taking immersion more seriously.

OurDream Video Generator

So, for the OurDream video generator, I wanted to see something different, I wanted to see how natural it felt. Same scenario, I just wanted to make her move, but I wanted to pay attention to how smooth the motion is and see if her facial expressions match the motion.

So in the video you will see that it’s a much more intimate setting, the motion is much more subtle, and it’s not so much about the motion as it is about the close up and personal type of vibe, I was looking out for any kind of lag or stiff robotic like movement, the motion is very smooth.

Soulgen Video Generator

Alright so I decided to test the Soulgen video generator out, now I wasn’t just going to hit that generate button and see what happens, I wanted to try something specific. So, I basically took the AI girl from the chat & image above and decided to make her move.

What I really wanted to see was if I could get her to move realistically, her head movement, hair, the delay between facial expressions, you get the idea. So, in the video you will see that she doesn’t just simply stand there and looks pretty like a.gif, the animations here have purpose and there is movement.

The lighting is really good, almost cinematic, she maintains eye contact which makes the video feel pretty personal and the motion looks very smooth, all of which is great, but I wanted to see if I could get a realistic feeling motion from her, so does she just look like some stitched together.gif that you made in the 90s, or does she look alive? The motion in this video is pretty smooth, Soulgen has a very stylized/realistic look, almost fantasy like, it’s meant to be impressive. Want to know how it actually performs under scrutiny? Ourdream Token Pricing

When I visited the Dreamcoin page of Ourdream, I was greeted with an awful lot of pink and black. To my surprise, I found a largely standard pay-per-content system: you buy Dreamcoins, which are the currency you need to order images or video, and there are three packages listed in the screenshot.

The lowest is 1,000 coins for around $11.99, the middle package lists 5,000 coins for what amounts to a price of $10 per 1,000 coins (with a “20 % off” label on it), and the largest package is 20,000 coins for what works out to roughly $159.99, or around $8 per 1,000 coins (with something resembling a “33 % off” label on it).

The prices I see on the website during my investigation suggest that this is not a one-time thing, but the standard discounts that are applied to packages, as I see similar banners and seasonal discounts listed for packages. Those are the coins you need to pay when you order more images or videos than are covered in your subscription, so in essence the price per 1,000 coins is the effective price per content item you generate on this platform.

Ourdream Subscription Pricing

The subscriptions page on Ourdream looks like someone took a Valentine’s day ad and exploded it; there is a giant “75 % SALE” at the top, and right below it a monthly Premium plan that lists at around $19.99 a month, instead of the “original” price of something around $39.99. This stands out to me, because it tells us two things at the same time: one, there is a regular price, and two, they seem to have sales often enough that the sale price is practically the “actual” price that you are likely to see.

The Premium plan comes with a lot, including monthly Dreamcoins (1,000, normally), unlimited messaging, audio, image & video generation, and voice calls. In other words, once you have a subscription, you do not need to pay for every single content item you generate, as long as you do not exceed the amount of Dreamcoins you get with your plan.

During my visit, I find similar seasonal or promotional deals on the subscription page, so it seems that Ourdream has regular sales and discounts as a standard part of its pricing strategy, rather than just the occasional price cut.

Soulgen Token Pricing

Upon navigating to Soulgen’s “Credits Charge” page, I was greeted by what appeared to be an accounting assistant’s fantasy straightforward credit per request, no “may take tokens” vagueness. It’s spelled out for you a 5 second video will cost roughly 10 credits, a character sheet with a “Looks Like” picture will cost 2 credits, and image alone will cost 1 credit.

A human model, editing an image, or expanding an image will cost roughly 3 credits per image. Even text and voice chat are not without cost sending a text message will cost 0.2 credits, and a minute of voice chat will cost 1 credit. I appreciate that this page gives you an idea of how much each thing costs before you hit the generate button this way, you should not be surprised when your credits are deducted.

From navigating the website and searching through forums, it seems that the folks over at Soulgen frequently inform users of the cost in credits of actions, so it’s not as if they’re hiding the costs after you’re engaged. One thing to note, is that the dollar cost per credit will depend on whether you purchase subscription credits, or one-off bundles, and the website seems to offer discounts when you purchase more credits.

Soulgen Subscription Pricing

The Soulgen subscription price page feels like a “special discount for you, valued customer” type of thing. As you can see, the monthly subscription is supposedly discounted 50 % to $12.99 (from $25.99), and the yearly subscription is supposedly discounted 70 % to $90.99 (from $155.88). This lets you know 2 things: A. There is an actual MSRP, and B. They regularly discount to this extent.

The monthly subscription comes with 100 credits per month, access to priority queue, the ability to multitask, and the ability to remove the blur from images (depending on which one). I checked their price page and knowledge center, and these discounts seem to be pretty standard.

They are either holiday discounts, or discounts for your first time purchasing a subscription. I find it interesting that you get X amount of credits per month from the subscription, but you have to spend them on images, videos, chat, etc. It’s fairly transparent, and although the discounts help significantly, if you weren’t seeing the discounts on the screen, you’d still know the full price they are asking for the product.

Which AI Girlfriend Offers Better Value

After staring at the price pages for Ourdream and Soulgen longer than I have stared at a price comp spreadsheet at 2am in the morning, I can tell you that I have observed some things about how these platforms charge for content. Both platforms offer a monthly subscription with a monthly allotment of tokens or credits, and then they also have a mechanism to buy additional tokens at a discount if you need to generate more content.

On Ourdream, you can see the token pricing here, which lists the price per token, as well as their discounts (20% off! 33% off!). You can see the monthly subscription pricing here, which shows the discount off of the monthly rate (Valentine’s sale! Normally $39.99, now just $19.99 a month!), not the list price.

On Soulgen, you can see how many credits an image costs here, how many credits an edit costs here, how many credits an extension costs here, and even how many credits 5 seconds of video costs here, and then you can see the monthly subscription packages here, which show that they also have discounts off of the monthly rate ($25.99) and annual rate ($155.88) to a discounted monthly rate ($12.99) and annual rate ($90.99).

Both of these platforms appear to have sales and discounts baked into their pricing models, so the prices you see in these screenshots are not necessarily the “discounted price” but may be the price that you are most likely to pay. Ourdream Unique Feature

The very first thing I noticed about Our dream, that made it stand out, was not a button, nor some crazy ass animation; It was the dreamer program aspect. It doesn’t feel like a tool where you make a character and that’s it, this thing has a featured page, a page for the top dreamers of the past 30 days, follow counts, view counts. It’s almost like a social media feed, not just a private AI model.

I quickly realized Our dream isn’t just about making AI models for yourself, it’s about putting them out there for everyone to see, you can create, you can share, you can gain followers, and make a name for yourself in that community; It’s the community aspect that makes it feel different, it’s not just a tool where you can have an AI model that you keep to yourself, you can make something and put it out for others to see and give you credit.

Soulgen Unique Feature

My unique moment for Soulgen was the VR faceswap, and how it is presented with making your VR content. When I opened the how to make a quality VR creation page, I wasn’t expecting actually technical advice on how to make that content. They speak about Clear VR180 video, the ideal front on view, lighting, stuff to avoid such as extreme side views, or multiple people in the video. That’s extremely specific.

This isn’t just AI model creation no more, this is getting into VR territory, the VR faceswap feels like Soulgen pushing really hard into the realm of realistic, personalized immersive content. They’re practically saying here, you want this shit to be immersive? Here’s how you do it, properly. That’s confidence.

Ourdream Safety

Though, Ourdream does give adults more autonomy and does have some limits like showing credit consumption and showing the subscription levels clearly and it has the creator community moderation. Since you can post characters, there is some liability built into the platform.

Soulgen Safety

Soulgen relies mainly on pay-per-view credits, that already limits the misuse. Also the VR policy and content structure suggest that they value the results and ethical work. Many payment options (including cryptocurrencies) and clearly presented subscription plan and credits calculation.

Ourdream Support

The support is handled via ourdream and their respective payment platforms. The subscription process is simple and there is an obvious Dreamer program which means that the project is still being updated and there is likely a level of engagement from the creators, this is a community like thing, and they tend to listen.

Soulgen Support

“Soulgen has a few payment methods and wallet connections available as well as tiered plans for subscriptions. The price transparency and the table showing how credits are consumed helps a lot in determining how much things will cost and that alone goes a long way in minimizing the hassle. Truthfully, more than a support ribbon.”

Conclusion

To describe it as simply as I can, Ourdream feels like a fantasy social network with an AI core, while Soulgen feels like an AI generator designed for fantasy immersion.

Which is superior? Well, that depends on what you want. Do you want to create a character, maybe share her with the world, see your subscribers increase, feel a sense of community? Or do you want more control, the ability to customize realism, dabble in VR, or simply have a more private experience?

I came in expecting these two to be near-identical. They’re not. They share similarities, of course, but the experience is somewhat different. And for this genre, the experience is more important than one might assume.
