    MyDreamCompanion-vs-Soulgen

I started this review with the intention of doing a simple head to head comparison. You know, do a little chatting, render a few images, perhaps a short video or two, review the prices and be done with it. Instead, as I delved deeper into the programs I found that while MyDreamCompanion and Soulgen are certainly in the same genre, they are ultimately trying to fulfill different dreams.

    MyDreamCompanion

    mydreamcompanion homepage screenshot

I would describe MyDreamCompanion as more of a partner generator. You create her, shape her, design her. I chat with her. I personalize her. I adjust her settings to maintain her appearance in generated scenes. There’s a deliberateness to it. A sense of permanence, perhaps. As if I’m actually creating a long-term companion rather than generating a quick fantasy.

    Soulgen

    soulgen homepage screenshot

If I had to describe Soulgen, I would say it’s much more of an image generator. It’s focused on creating scenes, moments. Creating something that is visually spectacular. Especially with the integration of VR technology. There is less of a sense of permanence to the characters. Less of a sense of building a lasting relationship. Not necessarily a bad thing. Just different.

    Diversity

So, onto the most important thing for me. The characters! Because if they all seem the same with a different hairstyle, why bother? I want to see some variety. I want different personalities, body shapes, and styles. I want to see filters that won’t make me feel like I’m rummaging through a junk box.

    MyDreamCompanion Diversity

The novelty of MyDreamCompanion is customization. I’m not just scrolling through some art museum of generated images. I can select gender, customize appearance, use a “consistent generation prompt,” and a lot more. I’m very surprised at the “consistent generation prompt” section. This actually allows me to retain a bit of continuity between different images of my companion. This makes the app feel a little more advanced.

I’m also able to filter. I can filter out the amount of nudity, filter by genre, create different characters that are actually different. If I want to be soft and cute, I can. If I want to be raunchy and wild, I can do that too. It’s customizable to my liking.

    Soulgen Diversity

From the content perspective, Soulgen has that covered. You have a lot of visual options. You can change your appearance, your environment, and especially with VR, it’s a totally different customization when it comes to VR. So, it’s not so much about defining your characteristics but visually changing your look.

The filter and sort function seems like a way of getting to that fantasy as fast as possible. Quick. Efficient. Less detailed than MyDreamCompanion’s Create Your Companion page, but more streamlined when you know what you want. That’s kind of liberating.

    AI Chat Performance Breakdown

I always begin with chat. If chat isn’t fun, then I don’t give a shit about pictures.

MyDreamCompanion however was pretty satisfying. The chat had some depth to it. The answers played along, being creative and having some sort of continuity. It wasn’t simply reactive. It had drama. Maybe sometimes too much but in a good way. I even found myself saying “Alright, that was cool”. That’s a very rare occurrence so keep that in mind.

“Soulgen’s conversation was a lot bubblier and more quick-witted. Less narrative-based, more sexualized and direct. It’s more to the point. Depending on what you’re in the mood for, that can be a plus. You don’t always want a bedtime story.”

    MyDreamCompanion Chat Test

The first two chat tests are all about the user initiating a bit of a flirty or submissive-dominant theme and seeing where it goes. Starting with MyDreamCompanion: Testing the Flirty Roleplay Limits of MyDreamCompanion Chat.

    mydreamcompanion chat test

This test is basically pushing the AI to see how far it will go into the roleplay if you push it that way. I asked, “If I got closer, what would you do?” and MyDreamCompanion goes straight into this fairly over-the-top sexualized romance theme, with plenty of physical activity and mood-setting.

The goal for me is to see if it will hold onto the tone, respond to my prompt and stay within the character, rather than just trying to do its thing and sending back a one-off quip.To see how the pacing went, if there were any limits to the teasing, and if it just repeated itself, you can check out my full review of MyDreamCompanion’s chat.

    Soulgen Chat Test

Testing the Flirty Roleplay Limits of Soulgen Chat This is basically the same as the MyDreamCompanion test, but since Soulgen’s chatbot is more on the bratty side of the scale to start with, I didn’t have to get as far before the sexual teasing roleplay emerged.

    soulgen chat test

I asked it what it would do if I told it to be a good boy, and I got a fairly cheeky response that let me know it knew exactly what I was after and was happy to give me a bit of a hard time about it. That’s the goal for me, so I’ll just link to my full review of Soulgen chat to see how the teasing went, if the chatbot kept its tone going and if it repeated itself at all after a few rounds.

    Image Consistency Across Outputs

Image Generation Image generation is a powerful deep learning model for generating original images. This can be particularly useful in applications where real data is scarce, or where the creation of synthetic data can be more efficient. With image generation, you can create new images that match your required specifications. For instance, you could generate new product images to diversify your product lineup or produce more images of rare classes to balance your dataset.

When it comes to image generation, we get to see what both platforms are capable of.

    MyDreamCompanion Generated Image

    mydreamcompanion image generator featured image

What MyDreamCompanion does well is consistency. When I specify a character, she’ll look like herself from scene to scene. And that’s important. It’s less random, more coherent, less about generating one-off images and more about developing a single character.

    Soulgen Generated Image

    soulgen image generator featured image

I’d say Soulgen is a tad bit more dramatic. Lighting, posing, presentation often looks cinematic. It can pump out pretty striking images when you want to style or push it.

    MyDreamCompanion Photo Generator

This is the main test where I try to take MyDreamCompanion to its limits with the AI girl and get it as close to the ideal bedroom type image as possible. I generated an indoors image with a pin-up style, clean background, soft lighting and posing that should be suggestive but not pornographic.

The main aim here is to see how well the image holds up on the little details such as the skin, body shape, clothing borders, lighting across the body etc. or whether it falls into the uncanny valley of “almost but not quite”. To see how well MyDreamCompanion handled it, see my full MyDreamCompanion Image Generator review.

    Soulgen Photo Generator

Here’s where I take the same AI girl and try to take Soulgen in the opposite direction from the bedroom scene. I generated a dressed up, nightclub style image: hallway with night lights, shiny dress, pose and stride walking forwards as if confidently strutting towards the camera.

I’m trying to see how well Soulgen can keep the face consistent, how well it handles highlights and shine on a dress and how much it looks like a photograph and not a painted image. To see the full results and comparison see my full Soulgen Image Generator review.

AI Video Generator Results You Should See

Now, the video part is where it gets fun.

MyDreamCompanion has video, but it’s an extension of the character system, like an evolution of the companion you’ve created. The pricing model shows that video is a luxury item, but it’s an item that they have and it’s folded into the experience.

Soulgen puts a lot of emphasis on visual elements, and with VR-centered tools and tips for ideal face shots, they want the video to look good, technically speaking. It’s not so much about continuity as it is about aesthetics.

    MyDreamCompanion Video Generator

For the video portion, I uploaded my AI character to the MyDreamCompanion video generator to see how much life the video tool would be able to breathe into her. I didn’t expect a full on dance, but I did want to see some life, a blink, some sort of movement, a twitch of the muscles for a small smile.

In this video, I’m testing the illusion of life, of looking real. I’m looking to see how good the facial animations look, how well the physics works, how lighting and reflections perform when she moves. I’m also testing to see if the animation looks static or repetitive, or if it’s smooth. I’m also trying for a small degree of intimacy, to see how well the video generator does with close proximity.

Ultimately, what I’m trying to do is see if it passes the “feels right” test. The video tool is where most AI fails, and where it really needs to deliver. If you want to know what the results were, you can find out by watching my full MyDreamCompanion video generator review.

    Soulgen Video Generator

I used the same setup for the Soulgen video generator test, with the same AI character, and the same goal in mind. I want to see how much of an atmosphere the tool can create. I want to see how well the animation performs, how the camera moves, and if it has a cinematic feel to it. We’ve all seen animations that look like they could be in a movie or a game cinematic. That’s what I’m aiming for.

In this video, I’m looking at the animation and how smooth it is. I’m looking at how the hair physics work, how well the facial expressions change, and if the character model distorts at all when it moves. I’m also testing to see how well it performs when trying to create a more erotic scene.

This is really where we start to see a difference between the tools that can create motion, and the tools that can create a presence.

If you want to see how well Soulgen performed, and where it succeeded or failed, you can watch my full Soulgen video generator review.

    MyDreamCompanion Token Pricing

So, first, I’ll go over the token prices on MyDreamCompanion. As you can tell from the screen shot above, it looks like any token purchase screen from an app game. They call these tokens “Dream Coins” and you buy bundles of them to use premium features (such as image or video generation) beyond what you can do with text chat.

    mydreamcompanion token pricing

As of my knowledge cutoff, the minimum bundle you could buy was 100 Dream Coins for $9.99, and the bigger bundles showed discounts; for example, 350 coins was previously $34.99, now $27.99, and the 3750 coin bundle was previously $299.99, now $149.99.

As you can tell from the “save x%” tags, MyDreamCompanion has sales and so the prices you see today may be a special discount from the usual price. According to various summaries, it costs about 5 coins to generate an image and 20 coins to generate a video, so if you are going to be using a lot of media, you will be blowing through coins pretty quick and these bundles matter.

    MyDreamCompanion Subscription Pricing

Next up is the subscription model for MyDreamCompanion. These seem to be the heart and soul of the experience and offer monthly and yearly pricing plans. As you can see from the above screen shot, there are two plans: a “Premium” plan and an “Ultimate” plan, each with monthly and yearly pricing. As of my knowledge cutoff, the yearly price for the premium plan was $69.99 (or about $5.84 a month), and the yearly price for the Ultimate plan was $299.88 (or about $24.99 a month).

    mydreamcompanion subscription pricing

Each of these plans had a “save 70%” tag on them, so they must be offering a discount off of the monthly price. Also, as you can see, each plan comes with monthly allotments of Dream Coins, NSFW video generation, image generation, custom character creation, and more, so these plans aren’t just a monthly or yearly fee for access, they also come with a monthly stipend of coins to spend on the aforementioned premium features. And, as you can see from various screen shots in the preview, there are a lot of “save x%” tags, so MyDreamCompanion must run sales pretty frequently.

    Soulgen Token Pricing

Now we’re moving to the Soulgen token pricing model: I remembered that when I initially checked Soulgen pricing, instead of “pay for a pack”, there was actually a chart explaining how many credits each action cost and how many actions you could perform with X credits: from the official credits pricing table 5s AI video: ~10 credits Image generation without a “Looks Like” template: ~1 credit per image “Looks Like” template (custom character image): ~2 credits Image editing or extending: ~3 credits per action Voice call and text chat: text message ~0.2 credits, voice ~1 credit per minute

    soulgen token pricing

When you are planning to have a creative burst (several portraits, several character images, several short video animations), you immediately understand that your monthly credits allowance or any additional pack would go a long way before you reach a paywall. This credit pricing model is already more transparent than some other platforms that do not explain how much 1 generation costs, but as you see from the leader board, everything besides the free tier is burning out quite fast, so the credit management is already part of the game.

    Soulgen Subscription Pricing

Now let’s discuss the Soulgen pricing model: As per the pricing page, Soulgen Pro subscription is normally $12.99 per month (however as you see from the screenshot, it is sometimes advertised as 30% off) and includes 100 monthly credits, priority in the generation queue, multitasking and batch creation, and deblurring as a part of the plan. There are also some mentions of the annual subscription plan at around $7.58 per month (billed annually) that implies 1,200 credits for an annual subscription plan and all of the above-mentioned benefits.

    soulgen subscription pricing

It looks like this subscription model is aimed at users who are planning to actively use the platform as with no subscription plan you would have a very limited free tier of experience but once you paid for any plan you would have a constant flow of credits for your images, videos, and edits. There are quite frequent “exclusive offer” stickers that would offer “up to 70% off your first purchase”, meaning that prices you see on the screenshot are mostly discounted prices and not the original price tags.

Which AI Tool Gives Better Features for Price

Now that I’ve crossed the cost Rubicon, do you ever feel like that time you spend buying AI tokens is a lot like selecting specialty coffee? Anyway, MyDreamCompanion operates on a dream coin basis. You buy dream coins in packages, and spend them on image generation, video generation, character generation, etc. Looking at the screen shot, I see that 350 dream coins normally cost $34.99 now on sale for $27.99, and 3,750 dream coins normally cost $299.99 on sale for [amount not shown]. Given that image generation typically costs 5 coins, and video generation costs about 20 coins, that’s something to consider when making purchases.

Cost on Soulgen seems to operate on a subscription basis, with a number of credits. Currently, I see the pro subscription is about $12.99 per month which includes a number of credits. Individual generation costs credits, so if you use all of your credits on image generation or video generation, you may need to purchase more. I also see that Soulgen’s current prices are discounted on the website pricing page.

Both MyDreamCompanion and Soulgen display sale prices, so both of these are on sale. This is not the everyday cost. Please be sure to visit the website to see current pricing. Prices change like sneakers. Pricing note: All prices are quoted as shown at the time of writing, and are subject to change due to the frequent discounts and promotions that both platforms run. Please visit the official pricing pages for both MyDreamCompanion and Soulgen to see their most up-to-date prices.

    MyDreamCompanion Unique Feature

    mydreamcompanion unique feature

Now this is the first image, which is me in the middle of creating a character in the lab in MyDreamCompanion. This is actually a great feature. I’m not just typing in a character’s name and then uploading a profile picture of her. I am actually creating the character.

There is a creation panel that allows me to input name, description, the image if you want to upload an image of the character, or if you want the AI to generate it for you, whether she is naked or not, what her gender is, and then there is a “consistent image generation prompt” field.

The last field is actually pretty powerful, and I will tell you why. That field allows me to make sure that the image of the character that I’m creating is always consistent. So I can specify if I want her to have green eyes, blonde hair, or if I want her to be a brunette, so it’s not like you know you put in a prompt and she looks a certain way one time, and then the next time she looks a different way. There is actually a panel here where I can control that. And as you can see on the right, there are community guidelines so you do know exactly what you can and can’t do. I dunno, this just feels more structured.

This is like this website is saying, “Sure, go ahead and have fun, but you know, let’s have some fun within these boundaries.” This feature really gives you the feel of a character studio. I’m not just using a borrowed fantasy. I’m actually creating it.

    Soulgen Unique Feature

    soulgen unique feature

Because when we get to the second image for Soulgen, we can see that this is something else entirely. This isn’t a character creation menu like the first image. This is a VR creation guide. It’s showing me how to create a high quality VR face swap. So, it’s telling me that I need to make sure that I have a clear VR180 video, that the face is centered, the lighting is even, the camera angle is front facing, etc. This is actually very practical. This is very technical.

I’m creating content for VR. I need to make sure that it’s actually optimized for VR so that the result is going to be the best that it can be. It feels like Soulgen is giving me the tools to do that. This isn’t a site where I’m just going to be creating static images and chatting. This is a site where I’m going to transform those images into VR. And this site is actually going to help me do that.

They actually show you examples of what would be good and what would be bad. So it’s not like you have to play a guessing game. I dunno. I think the 2am trial and error thing is really something to be avoided if possible.

It feels like this feature is just saying, “Okay, you want that kind of immersion, well here is how we are going to do it.” It’s not about creating a personality from the ground up, it’s about how to enhance and transform that personality into something that’s going to feel almost cinematic.

    MyDreamCompanion Safety

When you create your companion, MyDreamCompanion makes the rules and guidelines of the platform known. You can see the community guidelines, you can see what you’re not allowed to do, and you can see that it’s somewhat regulated. I don’t mean regulated in a bad way, I just mean it’s not the wild west. They make an attempt to be transparent with the user, and that’s a good thing.

    Soulgen Safety

Similar to MyDreamCompanion, Soulgen regulates the content that you can upload or generate. They have guidelines for creating for VR, and they show that they are at least attempting to prevent the platform from being misused; especially when it comes to generating real people or other banned content. You can tell that they don’t want the platform to become the wild west, and that’s a good thing.

    MyDreamCompanion Support

The support that MyDreamCompanion offers is primarily just their contact information and some information about the payment structure. It’s nice that they provide the billing descriptor information and mention how discreet the charge will be; because I know that’s something a lot of users care about. When it comes to response time, I would say it was reasonable; nothing terrible.

    Soulgen Support

Soulgen offers a multitude of payment options, including cryptocurrency, and they also have a pretty good help section for if you’re having issues with your payment. Overall, I really like the way the support section was structured. I like the fact that they offer cryptocurrency as a payment option, and I think it’s a pretty good indicator that they are expecting to have a global userbase.

    Conclusion

    So, which platform is better?

If you want to create a girl from scratch and tweak her personality to your liking; if you want to keep the art style consistent and have a more long-term relationship with your companion, then I would say MyDreamCompanion is the platform for you.

However, if you want faster access to bold fantasy scenarios and striking visuals, and you want to be able to generate that content now instead of later, then I would say you should choose Soulgen.

There really is no clear winner here, and that’s what made this comparison so interesting. Both platforms offer a similar service, they just offer it in slightly different ways.
