I sacrificed my social life to play with these AI girlfriend simulators so you wouldn’t have to. In this article, I’m summarizing all the stuff I tried: the price, the chat, the image and video generation, the weird quirks, the highlights and the eyebrow-raisers. I didn’t just list the features. I clicked all the buttons, blew tokens like they were going out of style and said, “but is this a Real Thing?”
MyDreamCompanion
MyDreamCompanion seems to prioritize immersion over sexytime. The Dream Coins, the subscriptions, the chat and image (and NSFW video) generation all point to it attempting to create a fantasy world. It’s slick, a little bit creepy and heavy on the “girlfriend” side of things.
Promptchan
Promptchan feels more like a playground for creators, as well as an AI girlfriend. Gems instead of coins, image generation tools, and a subscription tier that gives you all the generation options. It seems a bit more loose, a bit more playful, like they want you to play around rather than just pretend to be a boyfriend. It’s cheeky, a bit ballsy and very much attuned to their users.

For this portion, we’ll discuss diversity as either the best thing about these services or a copy-pasted nightmare. If you’re going to create a fantasy companion AI, you don’t want one person in twenty wigs. You want races, body types, attitudes, and styles. You want diversity, and you want filters that aren’t a pain in the ass to use.
MyDreamCompanion Diversity
While using MyDreamCompanion, I felt that the character creator felt a bit deliberate. You can change your features, the tone of your personality, and start completely from scratch. The filters tend to be more personality and interaction-based rather than deciding whether you prefer “blonde or brunette.” It doesn’t feel like you’re scrolling through a catalog as much as you are trying to craft someone.
There are times where I felt like it needed more pre-set options, but on an emotional level, it felt rather diverse. The memory system helps with that as well. It actually remembers things, so the diversity isn’t so much about looks as much as it is layers of personality.

Promptchan Diversity
Promtchan focuses more on the visual diversity aspect. Different styles, different aesthetics, different body types, cosplay, fantasy, the list goes on. You feel like you’re browsing through a digital sketchbook. The filters are more focused on the visual aspect as well, so if you’re the kind of person who likes poses, costumes, angles, and attitude, you’ll more than likely enjoy yourself here. There is personality customization of course, but it doesn’t feel as fleshed out as MyDreamCompanion’s memory system. However, if you want visual diversity without having to think too much about it, Promptchan has you covered.

Chat Response Quality – MyDreamCompanion vs Promptchan
Chat is always the thing that I am most dubious about. Will it sound scripted? Will it repeat itself? Will it even respond?
The chat in MyDreamCompanion has been more script-like. It’s trying to create tension, even if that tension is a bit too much at times. I will say that when it does work, though, it does work, and it’s attempting to have continuity with its emotions.
The chat in Promptchan has been a lot more snappy, a lot more playful. Less storytime, and more ping-ponging insults. It’s snappy, which is appreciated, but at the expense of depth. I suppose it just depends on what you’re in the mood for.
MyDreamCompanion Chat Test
For the above test, I am really playing with fire on purpose. I make a comment like “If I got a step closer, what would you do now? and see how the character reacts. She responds in a more sensual, almost novel way, but she also tries to take the flirting to the next level.
This is what I am testing here, if the chat could keep up the teasing or sexual tension and still be creative and engaging or it would resort to more generic responses. You can read more about the consistency of the chat in my full MyDreamCompanion chat test.
Promptchan Chat Test
This is the same scenario, but different location, different avatar, different character. I ask the same question, and she responds as a friendly, teasing, flirty companion that tries to play it cool but clearly wants more.

Image Generation Accuracy Compared
This is where I began to churn through money like crazy. Both platforms do NSFW images, and they are both VERY good quality.
MyDreamCompanion Generated Image
But MyDreamCompanion does in-chat image generation that’s directly associated with your roleplay. It feels situational. Like the image actually “goes with” the moment.
Promptchan Generated Image
The generator used in Promptchan seems a bit more crisp when it comes to diverse art styles. It also generates poses and backgrounds really nicely. If you have an artistic eye you will be able to tell.
MyDreamCompanion Photo Generator
This image I generated to push the limits and see how much realism and body detail the model can generate. I tried to generate my AI image in a simple black dress, in a bedroom, in a soft light with really smooth skin and very exaggerated proportions.

Promptchan Photo Generator
I generated the following image with Promptchan. It’s similar to the one above in terms of beauty and realism, but I tried to make this one look more natural. I generated my AI character in a garden, kneeling in a white dress, with some mountains in the background.

I wanted to see how much the model can generate a really beautiful character in a natural environment, with natural lighting, with lots of depth and really nice composition.

AI Video Style Comparison
Video is also the “wow” factor for both.
MyDreamCompanion has NSFW video creation at a higher tier, but it’s tied to the fantasy aspect, so it makes sense that it would be an extension of that sort of relationship.
For AI videos, Promptchan seems more geared toward “generate -> edit -> repeat”. A bit more experimental. I enjoyed the straightforwardness of it, but it’s obvious it wants you to be on the Pro plan if you plan to use it heavily.
MyDreamCompanion Video Generator
I tested the MyDreamCompanion Video Generator by asking it to create an animation of my AI girlfriend. I didn’t want anything crazy from this. I just wanted to see her move. You know, twitch her hips a bit, flick her hair, that sort of thing. I actually think she’s cute enough to sell an entire video on just giving me “I know you’re looking” eyes. So I thought I’d give that a shot.
The result looks like my girlfriend. Same face, same expressions, but now she’s moving. There’s a fluidity to the animation that I like, so kudos to that. It’s all very cinematic, but not a lot of motion. I think I was looking for that, too. I wanted to see if she looked like herself in motion as well as stills. The way the hair moves, the lighting, etc. That’s where these AI models can really let you down.

Promptchan Video Generator
I tested the Promptchan Video Generator in a similar way. I created the same AI girlfriend and asked for more or less the same thing. The main difference here was that I was interested in seeing if the personality came across in the video, rather than just the image. So I focused on the sassy side of her personality for the Promptchan video. She’s a bit of a bitch in this one, I won’t lie.
The motion in the Promptchan video is a bit more pronounced. There’s something a bit bolder about it. Less concerned with looking real and more concerned with just looking good. I dunno, maybe that’s just me, but I think you can see what I mean when you watch the video. It’s definitely a bit more fearless than the MyDreamCompanion video, that’s for sure.
In any case, I wasn’t just looking for motion. I was looking for personality. Does the AI seem like she’s meant to be this way, or does she just look like a collection of body parts strapped together and flailing about like a puppet on a string? MyDreamCompanion Price and Cost Token Price Now let’s check out MyDreamCompanion’s token shop. Their token shop feels quite similar to the one you find on many AI girlfriend and boyfriend apps. You purchase packs of tokens (in this case called “Dream Coins”) and then use the tokens to unlock images, videos and other features outside of just chatting.
The token packs start at 100 coins for $9.99, with larger packs on sale from their normal price. For example, 350 coins normally costs $34.99, but it’s on sale for $27.99. Another example is 3,750 coins normally costing $299.99 but it’s on sale for $149.99.
You can tell they rely on sales quite a bit to make the larger packs feel like more of a discount. Without the original price listed next to the sale price, it doesn’t feel as good of a deal. According to various online pricing guides and lists, the coins are used to pay for things such as image generation (5 coins per image) and video generation (20 coins per video). So if you are looking to generate a lot of images or videos, the coin packs will come in handy.
MyDreamCompanion Subscription Pricing
Now let’s talk about the subscription options on MyDreamCompanion. There’s actually quite a few options to choose from. The two main tiers are the Premium tier and the Ultimate tier, with monthly and yearly options for each. When subscribing yearly, you get a better monthly price.
The premium tier would cost around $5.84 a month (when you pay around $69.99 per year) and the Ultimate tier would cost around $24.99 a month (when you pay around $299.88 per year). Both of these are discounted quite a bit from their original prices. If you choose to pay monthly, premium would be around $11.99 and ultimate around $44.99.

On top of this image, you see that the website is running a Valentine’s Day sale with “70 % off.” That means the original prices of 900 gems for $29.99 have been reduced to $8.99. And the bigger packs like 10,000 gems originally $299.99 is now down to $89.99.
According to many tutorials that I read, every image and video generation costs gems. So, depending on the quality of the image/video or the feature that you are using, it may cost more gems per image/video. Getting the bigger gem packs is how power users prevent their gems from drying out.
Promptchan Subscription Pricing
Second up is the pricing image for Promptchan. In this image, it seems like we are looking at a monthly subscription plan. Instead of just buying gems, you are subscribing for a monthly fee. The subscription fees are divided into three tiers: Plus for $11.99 a month, Premium for $18.99 a month, and Pro for $26.99 a month.
These are the prices per month along with the gems that you will receive every month. According to many review articles that I read, each tier offers some exclusive features like priority image/video generation, ability to add custom characters, and video generation. Also, note that most of the prices have a “20 % off” tag.
That means Promptchan is running a sale on their monthly subscriptions. So, the prices that you see in this image may not be the actual list prices. This is something that I realized as I was reading through articles on the web along with some trial and error.

From a security standpoint, MyDreamCompanion boasts private billing and secure payments. You see a lot of ads for their sales, but there are those banners and timers to help you know when they’re having a sale, so paying is easy enough. The NSFW content is subscription only, so it has a regulated structure. It is a bit more underground than others, but still safe.

The support that MyDreamCompanion offers is more old school. You have contact forms, you have email responses, you have structured help pages. It’s not immediate, but it’s structured. I have the feeling that there is a process in place if something doesn’t work.
Promptchan Support
The support that Promptchan offers is less comprehensive and more informal. They have a support page and ways to get in touch, but it has a bit more of a “startup” feel to it. A bit quicker, a bit less polished. Not necessarily bad, just…different.
Conclusion
So, after all these tests, the real answer is: If you like emotions, scenarios, and relationship feels then go to MyDreamCompanion. If you like freeform, good pictures, and fun anarchy, Promptchan is the place for you.
I didn’t think I would notice or care about these distinctions as much as I do. However, after you’ve played around with these systems for a few hours, you can really sense them. One feels like writing a story. The other feels like playing in a sandbox.
Both are flawed. Both can be pricey if you don’t keep an eye on it. But if you know which type of experience you prefer, then the decision becomes more obvious. And to be frank, I didn’t expect it.
