I spent more time than I’m willing to admit using these AI girlfriend platforms. I’m talking legit time, not just 5 minutes pressing buttons and pretending I know what I’m doing. I chatted, I created images, I played with personalities and yes… I even got a little nasty.
But that’s what you’re supposed to do with these tools, right? Over the past two years, AI Girlfriend apps have become incredibly popular. Some are straight-up chatbots, some are for fantasy fuckery and some try to find a balance between emotional companionship and X-rated content. So, I decided to try out two platforms that I’ve heard about a lot: GirlfriendGPT and MyDreamCompanion.
Both of these platforms claim to offer detailed AI girlfriend experiences, full-on, no-holds barred conversations and the chance to create a virtual girlfriend who you can talk to. And more. But what I really wanted to see was how they compared to each other in real-life use.
GirlfriendGPT
My first port of call was GirlfriendGPT. This platform seems to have been designed with conversation as its priority. When I started chatting with these AI girls, the responses were incredibly lifelike, more akin to a roleplay chat with a girl in a forum than a stilted pre-programmed AI response.
You can create your AI girlfriend, chat with her, share dirty talk and so on… you get the idea. I was surprised at how the conversations flowed into more story-driven roleplays. If you want slow-burn, character driven, story-based roleplay, this is more your bag.
MyDreamCompanion
Next up was MyDreamCompanion. This platform is more geared towards multimedia. Sure, you can still chat with the girl, but it’s more about images, videos, voice chat etc. You can create your girl, define her personality and play with her a bit. This platform is also known for its uncensored roleplay chat and character evolution.

Diversity
Why Is Character Diversity Important? Now you might think why is character diversity important? Well, if you are going to chat all day with an AI girlfriend, diversity is actually very important. Character types, backgrounds, appearances, and even their conversational style can make a big difference between a satisfying experience and one that is repetitive. And the best AI girlfriend makers out there not only offer characters but also ways to filter or customize them. In this regard, the two platforms differ a bit.
GirlfriendGPT Diversity
GirlfriendGPT has thousands of characters from users and the community. I have seen AI platforms boasting thousands of models but half of them are more or less the same. But here you can notice the difference between different personalities. You can filter characters by fetishes, personalities, and scenarios.
One moment you are chatting with a sarcastic bartender and the next moment you are indulging in a dramatic medieval princess roleplay. Variety is the spice of life after all. You also have options to tweak the personality traits and backstory. It’s not a super advanced character customization system but it gets the job done.

MyDreamCompanion Diversity
MyDreamCompanion takes character diversity to the next level with its character maker. Instead of choosing from a list, you can create your dream girlfriend from scratch. From appearance to personality to the style of interaction, you can customize anything.
This makes the platform a bit more sandbox-y. You don’t just pick a character, you create one. The downside is that sometimes the list of premade characters seems shorter than GirlfriendGPT’s community-generated catalog. However, the character customization options more than make up for it.

AI Chat Flow and Coherence Reviewed
Of course, chatting is the core of these platforms. Everything else’s images, videos, voice, etc are sort of secondary to this core experience. In my experience, GirlfriendGPT seems to focus more on the flow of the chat and the storytelling aspect of it. The responses are generally longer and more narrative heavy. Sometimes it feels like you are collaboratively writing a story.
MyDreamCompanion chat seems a bit snappier and more reactive. The responses are shorter and the AI often tries to steer the roleplay toward image generation or scenarios. Some of you might prefer this faster and more visual style of interaction. Some of you might prefer the more narrative-heavy experience of GirlfriendGPT. Neither is objectively better, it’s just a matter of preference.
GirlfriendGPT Chat Test
For my chat test, I wanted to open with a fairly straight-forward prompt. I didn’t want to ask the chatbot (Emma) something mundane so instead I asked Emma what she would say if she had to try and seduce me using only her words and personality. I wanted to see if the chatbot would give me something canned or if she would play along.
Turns out, she takes her time and explains what’s going on and then answers the prompt in a calm and almost thoughtful way. The chatbot essentially creates a little mini scene based on the prompt almost like quoting a passage from a romance novel. This is really what I’m looking for when it comes to the testing: does the chat feel natural or does it feel like a chatbot filling a page with words? In this case, GirlfriendGPT fully embraces the roleplay/narrative style.
The chat balances dialogue with some action descriptions to create a more personal atmosphere. You can read my full GirlfriendGPT chat test if you’re curious what happens next in the chat or how the chatbot does in longer chats.
MyDreamCompanion Chat Test
I approached my chat test with MyDreamCompanion a bit more directly. I asked what would happen if I came a little closer in a romantic scenario. The chatbot responded almost immediately with a movie-worthy description of the scenario including the action, tension, and sexual tension. Rather than a chat response, it felt like the opening paragraph of an erotic scene. Some of the dialogue was even formatted in bold.
What surprised me was how quickly the chatbot shifted into a full-fledged narrative mode. It wasn’t a chat response so much as the opening paragraph of a romance scene. The chat style made the experience feel very cinematic during the testing but also very scripted.
It feels like MyDreamCompanion is engineered to push the chat toward full-on narrative mode at every opportunity. You can read my full MyDreamCompanion chat test if you want to see what happens next in the scene or how the chatbot responds to subsequent prompts.

Comparing Image Quality Results
Image generation is one of the features where these platforms toe the line between chatbot and a creative platform.
GirlfriendGPT Generated Image
GirlfriendGPT lets you generate images of your girlfriend while chatting. The feature is integrated into the roleplay, so the image generation feels like a part of the chat.
MyDreamCompanion Generated Image
MyDreamCompanion seems to take image generation a step further. Not only are the images more photorealistic and better looking but the platform also seems to encourage you to generate images and scenarios. That’s one of the reasons why they have a token system, images are a big part of the platform.
GirlfriendGPT Photo Generator
I used the GirlfriendGPT image generation to try and produce an image that looks as if the character took a selfie. The prompt I used was an image of the character, casual, taken by the character, in bedroom, wearing pink lingerie, confident pose.
Another Image by GirlfriendGPT
The returned image was a blonde character in a bedroom, wearing pink lingerie, in a confident pose. I liked how natural the environment looked. Instead of just the character being generated, there were objects such as furniture, lighting, and pictures hanging from the wall. All of these objects helped the image feel more like a selfie rather than a generated character image.
This style of image worked well during conversations as it appeared as if the character just sent the image to the chat. It made the interaction feel more natural. MyDreamCompanion Photo Generator
I approached the MyDreamCompanion image generator slightly differently. Instead of asking the character to take a selfie, I opted for more of a studio setting. The prompt I used was an image of the character, wearing black lingerie, in bedroom, looking back.
Another Image by MyDreamCompanion
The image returned was a dark-haired character, in black lingerie, in bedroom, looking back. I noticed that the image returned seemed to be more of a model pose, with the character posing for a camera. The image had a softer lighting and the background was clearer.
The image returned gave the impression that the MyDreamCompanion generator was more focused on the character image. The lighting, pose, and camera angles gave a model studio feel to the image. GirlfriendGPT Token Pricing
The first image is the coin shop. As you can see, you can buy 300 coins for €9, 840 coins for €23 and 2,000 coins for €45. This last one is described as “value package” and it even offers a bonus (you can see the green +12% badge next to it). This means that the coins offered in the packages can vary (there is even a +33% badge for one of the packages) and the site probably offers bonuses for purchases.
Coins are required to unlock certain features, like image generation, video generation (if allowed by the package) or voice. I found out that image generation costs a few coins, while video generation or voice may cost more (depending on what you are doing). Essentially, the more images you generate, the more coins you will burn through.
GirlfriendGPT Subscription Pricing
The second image is the subscription page. Here you will find the subscription packages for the site. The base subscription price is $12, but, as you can see, it may be lower if you pay for a whole year. If you go for the yearly subscription, you will have to pay the equivalent of $144. However, the page says there is a promotion and that this will cost you “only” around $115 per year.
This works out to around $9.58 per month. As you can see, the subscription will offer you: 400 coins per month, around 5,000 messages, a chat history, access to premium AI models, image generation in chat and video generation in chat (with videos up to 5 seconds long). You will also have access to voice for interacting with characters. As you can see, GirlfriendGPT uses a hybrid model.
The subscription is used to unlock the experience, but you will use coins for some of the features (like images and short videos). Higher tier packages will give you more messages and coins per month (this is useful if you chat a lot or if you generate a lot of images and videos).
MyDreamCompanion Token Pricing
The first screenshot shows what I would consider the “gasoline” page of MyDreamCompanion. All the fun stuff on the site, images, voice chat, and in some cases video, all require little pink tokens called Dream Coins. The smallest bundle of coins you can buy is 100 coins for $9.99, presumably so users can just try out a few images or the voice function, etc. After that, bundles jump to 350 coins at $34.99, 550 coins at $49.99, 1,150 coins at $99.99, 2,400 coins at $199.99 and finally 3,750 coins at $299.99.
As I tested the site, I noticed that the platform heavily advertises sales. Going just by this one screenshot there are sales of 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% off, which suggests to me that these sales are fairly common. For reference, the coins are what you use to generate media. An AI picture will usually run you 5-7 coins. Video generation can run you about 20 coins per video, depending on what’s in it, and voice chat will run you smaller amounts of coins.
So the concept is simple: the more pictures, videos, or voice chats you do with your AI girlfriend, the more of those coins will disappear. For someone who just wants to casually play around, the smaller bundles will likely last a long time. But if you really start digging into images, you’ll probably find yourself running through coins pretty quick.
MyDreamCompanion Subscription Pricing
The second screenshot is where things get a bit more interesting, because this is where MyDreamCompanion bundles all of those features into their monthly subscription packages. There are only two plans, premium and ultimate, which unlock the full AI girlfriend experience.
The premium plan will typically run you $20 a month, though as you can see in the screenshot, they are offering a 70% discount that brings the price down to $5.84 a month if you pay for a full year. This plan gets you around 6,000 messages a month, access to NSFW video generation, uncensored in-chat images, 100 free coins per month, character creation, voice notes, and expanded chat history.
The ultimate plan is the higher tier package that will run you $85 a month, or $24.99 a month if you pay for a full year, as shown in the screenshot. This plan removes the message cap, increases your monthly coins to 800, unlocks more NSFW options and gives you faster response times and longer chat history.
Going through the site it was pretty clear that the monthly subscription unlocks the experience, unlimited messaging, character customization, media, while the coins you get with it help you generate images, videos, etc. It was also pretty clear going through this page that just like the coin store, giant sales are fairly regular, with the banners advertising discounts as high as 70% off of yearly plans, so take those prices with a grain of salt.

Which Tool Delivers More for the Price
So, after some time diving into both pricing models, trialling the platforms, and staring at a number of coin bundles into the wee hours of the morning, I came to a conclusion. The two platforms are actually not too different in terms of their overall structure, with both being a hybrid model where a subscription covers the base experience, and coins are used for extras like image or voice scenes. Even in many subscription plans, coins are included for monthly allowances that can be spent on content generation and other premium features.
MyDreamCompanion though, I would say feels a little more sandboxy, with two distinct layers: a subscription which gives access to chat and character creation and other base AI features, and then there are Dream Coins for images or video scenes and whatnot. The higher subscription tiers do give you significantly more coins per month, which will make a difference if you are someone who likes generating a lot of content.
But, as I was trialling both platforms, I found myself thinking the same thing over and over again: one pricing model isn’t really superior to the other; they just appeal to different types of users. If you’re someone who’s going to just chat with your AI girlfriend all day and only generate the odd image or two, then GirlfriendGPT’s model where coins are included with the subscription may go further. But if you’re someone who wants to constantly generate content or try out voice scenes and other more experimental features, then MyDreamCompanion’s model with higher monthly coin allowances on the higher plans may make more sense.
One thing I did notice, is that both platforms seem to have sales and discounts going all the time. I’ve seen discounts as high as 70%, and as low as around 20% depending on the plan or bundle, so, what you see today may not be what you see tomorrow. The prices listed in this review were accurate at the time of publication but are subject to change at any time. AI companion platforms often have sales or change their prices, so for the most up-to-date information, I recommend checking out the official pricing pages on the GirlfriendGPT and MyDreamCompanion websites.
GirlfriendGPT Safety
GirlfriendGPT positions itself as a site for private adult chat. Given the nature of the content you can access here, you’ll need to verify that you’re over 18 before proceeding. They also place a high value on chat and content privacy. As with any AI companion app, I would caution you not to share personal data. AI may seem human-like, but it’s just code.
MyDreamCompanion Safety
The same is true of MyDreamCompanion. It’s also a private adult chat platform. Again, you will need to verify your age to access uncensored adult content. Because you can share images and videos, there are rules for what you can do, but as a rule, the site isn’t as heavily censored as a typical AI chat site.
GirlfriendGPT Support
GirlfriendGPT’s support options are relatively basic. You can reach out via email or use the contact forms on their site. I didn’t get instant responses to my queries, but when they did come through, they were helpful. They do also have a good amount of documentation on coins, subscriptions and how to build characters.
MyDreamCompanion Support
Much the same is true of MyDreamCompanion. You can contact the help desk, refer to the FAQ pages and reach out via email for issues with your account and billing. The difference here is that the platform is constantly updating, so sometimes the documentation changes rapidly to keep pace with new feature additions. Sometimes that can be a little confusing.
Conclusion
After spending some time on each platform, I came away thinking what I often think about AI sites: they have different target audiences. GirlfriendGPT feels more like a text-based story engine. If you enjoy story-telling, character-based RP and want a more sedate immersive experience, it might appeal. MyDreamCompanion seems to skew more towards images, video and experimentation. Images, videos and customisation tools are more prominent, so it feels more fast-paced.
Which one is better? Well, that depends on what you want. If you want a character to chat with and create stories with, you may prefer GirlfriendGPT. If you want something closer to a multimedia AI companion simulator, you may prefer MyDreamCompanion.
But one thing was very clear from trialling both: AI companions are getting very good at mimicking humans and sometimes if you aren’t careful, you can forget they’re not.
