I’ve been seeing AI girlfriend sites advertised all over the internet, and I’ll admit it, I’m curious. It’s not every day you see the opportunity to have a conversation with a simulated partner, and I was wondering if that was all they could do, or if they could recall memories, produce images, and even give you the occasional tease. I signed up for GirlfriendGPT and Candy AI to find out. I’m not really interested in the sales pitch; I want to know what it’s like to use the platforms, to talk to the girls, produce images, and generally speaking play around and see what works as intended and what breaks the fantasy every now and again.

GirlfriendGPT

GirlfriendGPT seems to be an AI chat and roleplay focused experience. Essentially the site is about the AI models they’ve created for conversing with and roleplaying with users, and they tend to have more freedom than your typical chatbot. You can create your own AIs, chat with them, even roleplay with voice and image interactions, including sexual roleplay.

Candy AI

Candy AI by comparison seems to be more focused on multimedia. Again, you’re talking to AIs and having romantic conversations, but the site puts an emphasis on pictures, customization, and voice interactions. You can build your own AI girlfriend, talk to her, produce images, and even talk to her and have her talk back with the voice feature.

Diversity

One thing I didn’t think I’d care about as much as I do is character diversity. Sounds trivial, right? But when you start chatting with AI girlfriend characters, you kinda want variety. Different personalities, different tones, different feels. Without that, it all gets a bit repetitive quite quickly.

GirlfriendGPT Diversity

I was actually surprised at how many characters GirlfriendGPT has. Between community created content and the pre-made library, you can have access to thousands of unique AI girlfriend characters, from fantasy to more realistic. When browsing the platform, it kinda felt like browsing a giant roleplay board. Some characters were serious, some were funny, and others were entirely fantasy focused. The neat thing is how customizable they are, you can change personality traits, tone, and even appearance.

The filtering options are a bit more basic, however. You can filter by tag, character, or popularity, but the filtering system isn’t as advanced as I’ve seen in more recent platforms. Once you’ve started interacting with a character and they’ve started remembering details about you, though, it gets pretty immersive.

Candy AI Diversity

Candy AI does character diversity a bit differently. Instead of mostly relying on community-made characters, the focus with Candy AI is more on creating your own custom AI girlfriend character. You can choose personality traits, how they look, and even what kind of relationship you want to have with them.

The character creation process is a bit similar to creating a character in a video game. You customise how they are, how they look and what they say, and you see the AI adapt to your choices over time. Candy AI does have pre-made characters as well, but it seems the focus is more on making your own AI girlfriend than browsing through thousands of characters. It’s a bit less chaotic and more curated.

Chat Response Quality – GirlfriendGPT vs Candy AI

This is where platforms like this either live or die. Good chat feels like chatting with a real person. Bad chat feels like sending texts to a customer service chatbot pretending to be your girlfriend. In my testing, I tried a bit of everything, regular conversation, roleplay, and even asking some pretty random questions just to see how they respond.

GirlfriendGPT chat leans pretty heavily into descriptive responses, the AI will describe body language, facial expressions and emotions like it’s narrating a scene. It’s pretty roleplay focused.

Candy AI chat feels a bit more conversational and direct. The AI still roleplays, but it feels a bit more natural and less narratively focused. Neither is necessarily a bad thing, it’s just a different feel depending on what you want.

GirlfriendGPT Chat Test

For my GirlfriendGPT chat test, I thought I’d check how the conversation would go once the dialogue got more intimate. I didn’t just ask questions, I pushed it to see how flirtatious the AI companion would get. As you can see from the screenshot below, I’m interacting with Emma and I’m asking her what someone could say to win her over using voice tone alone.

The first thing I noticed was how narrative her response was. It didn’t simply answer the question I had. Instead, it paused, described Emma’s response in detail and then built up to a response. Almost like I’m reading a short story as opposed to having a chatbot conversation. She talks about being honest and wanting to hear about something unique. A pretty deep conversation considering I was testing the limits of how flirtatious the AI would get.

Overall, I think that the GirlfriendGPT AI is programmed to respond in a more narrative fashion, so I’d suggest checking out my full chat test to see how she responds when the conversation gets deeper or more flirtatious.

Candy AI Chat Test

The conversation I had with Candy AI was much different. Here I decided to test and see how far I could get with romantic roleplay. So I sent a simple text and asked what would happen if I came closer. That’s a pretty simple question right? … Well, her response was anything but simple.

She responds immediately with a dramatic roleplay response. Talking about coming closer, leaning in and whispering in my ear before she delves into a pretty detailed romantic scenario. Instead of short answers, this response was more like a passage from a romance novel. Complete with a description and a rising sexual tension between the two of us. It’s pretty clear that this AI was designed for those that want to engage in an immersive story that the chatbot responds to.

Image Generation – GirlfriendGPT vs Candy AI Insights

Image generation is where things start getting visual instead of purely text-based.

GirlfriendGPT has something called “dynamic selfie generation”, which allows the AI to generate images of your character throughout chat, so if you ask for a beach photo, or a casual selfie, or a photo of your character posing in their underwear, the system can generate that for you, and keep the character model consistent throughout.

Candy AI also has a built-in image generation feature that allows you to create photos of your AI girlfriend in different clothes and locations. It’s actually pretty versatile, you can prompt scenes and poses directly from chat.

GirlfriendGPT Photo Generator

During my testing, I decided to test out the GirlfriendGPT image generator and see how well it does when you try to create a character. I made an attempt to get the tool to create a more realistic image that would look like a character you could talk to inside the app, rather than just a face portrait. Here’s what it created: a blonde girl in a bedroom wearing some bright pink lingerie, looking at the camera.

As you can see, the image is somewhere in between a rendered character and a social media photo. The lighting, the bedroom behind her, the tattoos and jewelry, everything makes this look more realistic. I think it’s what they’re going for, a “virtual girlfriend” type vibe where your AI girlfriend doesn’t just exist as a chatbot, but also as an image that appears in various locations. Candy AI Photo Generator

Over at Candy AI, I decided to do the same and test the character image generator. This time I wanted to see how well it does when you put the character in a completely different environment, so I prompted a garden. As you can see, the girl is posing in some sort of a garden, wearing some teal lingerie and posing rather naturally. The lighting looks more like a photo shoot, with the sun shining and the greenery in the background.

What’s interesting here is that Candy AI seems to be going more for the realistic look of an AI character. The pose, the facial expression and the background all make it look like it could be an actual photo rather than a rendered image. I feel like they’re going for more of an “AI Instagram influencer” vibe, where the characters look as real as possible. GirlfriendGPT Token Pricing

I managed to get a glimpse at GirlfriendGPT’s token system, and the economy of the platform seems to follow the standard AI-platform model: you need a subscription to use the platform, but you need tokens to create images or videos. In the above screenshot you see three packages of tokens you can purchase: 300 tokens for 9 euros, 840 tokens for 23 euros (small bonus), and 2000 tokens for 45 euros (33% bonus).

Obviously the bigger packages have more bonuses. These tokens are used to create media within the chat, based on my research of the platform 1 image costs around 6 tokens, short AI video 20 tokens, and voice a couple of tokens. For example, 300 tokens would be able to generate dozens of images. Obviously bigger packages are for more frequent users who want to create images or short videos. There’s also a note that token packages have bonuses from time to time, so there are probably frequent sales.

GirlfriendGPT Subscription Pricing

The second screenshot shows the premium plans, essentially the subscription packages of GirlfriendGPT. The monthly premium plan costs 12 USD per month, while the yearly option shows a discounted rate but originally costs 144 USD per year before the promotion. The yearly package essentially lowers the monthly cost. What’s interesting is what the premium plan offers: 400 free tokens per month, 5000 messages, long-term chat history, premium AI model.

The 400 free tokens per month is essentially fuel for creating images or short videos in chat. As you can see from the features list in the screenshot, premium unlocks in-chat image generation, short AI videos (up to 5 seconds), uncensored NSFW chat, voice capabilities, and more. Essentially, premium unlocks the underlying service, and tokens determine how much media you can create in the chat. It is interesting to note how frequently sales are offered, as you can see in the screenshot, there’s a sale on the yearly package, and in general, GirlfriendGPT prices tend to change due to sales or promotions depending on the time you purchase a subscription.

Candy AI Token Pricing

When I began to dig into the Candy AI pricing page, the first thing that I noticed was that this platform works on a coin or token system for their media options. If all you do is chat, that is covered with the subscription. But if you want to generate images, send voice messages or play around with video options, you will be using tokens.

As you can see in this screenshot, they offer everything from a 100 token package for $9.99 all the way up to a 350 token package for $34.99, a 550 token package for $49.99, a 1150 token package for $99.99 and an insane 3750 token package for $299.99. As you can see, the larger packages offer bonus tokens. In other words, the more that you spend the more bonus tokens that they will give you.

The tokens are essentially the currency that is used for the platform. Based on my research regarding how many tokens are used, it seems like image generation is usually between 2-4 tokens per image. And it seems like the voice and call options use tokens as well based on how long you talk. So when you do the math, you can actually generate a high amount of images per token package.

But once you begin to use the image features heavily, you will go through tokens rather quickly. As you can see in the screenshot, it appears that they also offer token bonuses from time to time on packages. This is something that I commonly see on platforms like this. They reward you for spending more money on the larger token packages.

Candy AI Subscription Pricing

The second screenshot shows the different Candy AI premium subscription packages. These are the plans that you will need to pay for in order to use the majority of the features on the platform. The standard monthly price for a premium subscription is $12.99 per month. However, as you can see in the screenshot, they often have promotions going on that will discount the price based on how many months you commit to.

In the screenshot, you will see that they offer a heavy discount for a yearly subscription (originally $12.99 per month) and they are also running a promotion for a three month subscription as well. I commonly see promotions like this on the site, especially for first time customers. With your premium subscription, you will gain unlimited access to text based chat, the ability to create your own AI characters, image generation, voice and video calls with your AI girl and faster response times.

In addition to the premium features, you will also receive 100 tokens per month that can be used to generate images, voice or other media inside of the chat. In other words, you need to pay for a subscription to use the service and the tokens dictate how often you can create images or use voice features. If you strictly chat, the premium monthly subscription may suffice. However, if you plan on creating images or making calls, you will more than likely need to purchase a token package.

Comparing Costs – GirlfriendGPT vs Candy AI

After scouring the pricing pages and playing with the systems I have to say that I somewhat approached each of the two systems from slightly different angles.

GirlfriendGPT I began to view as more of a tiered model. You choose how much you want to chat and want to upgrade based on that. The premium tier starts out at about $12 a month. With higher tiers giving you a higher messaging allowance and unlocking the ability to send and receive images and video and voice chat.

Candy AI I started to view more as a premium subscription token-based model. The premium subscription tier starts at $12.99 a month, though they often give a discount if you buy on an annual, semi-annual, quarterly or even monthly basis. The premium tier comes with a certain number of tokens per month for things like image or voice generation. If you send a lot of images or use the voice chat feature you will probably have to pay for more tokens. The cost of tokens varies based on how many you buy.

As I was testing these systems I came to the conclusion that if I wanted to pay a flat monthly fee and have mostly everything covered regardless, I would choose GirlfriendGPT. However, if I wanted a lower base monthly fee and have the option to pay as I go for image or voice generation, I would choose Candy AI. One of the two systems isn’t necessarily cheaper than the other. It’s just that they handle fees and charges in different ways. GirlfriendGPT Safety

GirlfriendGPT is an adult platform where you can have unfiltered roleplay conversations. Given the nature of the platform, you’re expected to moderate the content you create and share. The platform champions privacy and control for the user; as such, conversations are typically kept private and customizable. You can create scenarios and characters, engage in various types of roleplays, and share that content if you choose to.

Candy AI Safety

Candy AI also highlights privacy and data protection in addition to its interactive features. The platform calls out that conversations are encrypted and that you can privately manage your chat history to keep interactions discreet. You have control over your characters, conversations, and data, which lends itself to a safer space where you can still explore roleplay ideas. However, the platform is more geared toward creating a customized digital companion, which affects how you engage with the platform.

GirlfriendGPT Support

The support offered by GirlfriendGPT typically comes in the form of documentation and community support. If you need help with something, it’s usually a matter of consulting the FAQs or searching a forum for answers. The system works, although you may need to do a little bit of searching to find the answers you need.

Candy AI Support

Candy AI has slightly more formal support options. Finding documentation, subscription information, and troubleshooting information is a bit easier, which can help new users navigate how the platform functions. If you’ve never used an AI companion app before, this more straightforward onboarding process can make the platform feel more accessible.

Conclusion

After using both tools for a while, I found that GirlfriendGPT and Candy AI were offering different experiences. GirlfriendGPT feels like a roleplay sandbox where the focus is on creativity and story…Candy AI feels like creating a digital companion that can be developed over time through conversation, images, and interactions. Neither platform is perfect and both tools can generate odd or melodramatic responses from time to time. But that’s some of the fun of playing around with AI companions.
