    This unchecked circulation has serious consequences. According to a detailed study on AI image provenance, once such visuals enter public databases, they become part of training datasets for future AI models—replicating and amplifying biases in how the developing world is portrayed.

    The irony is painful: AI was supposed to democratize creativity, yet in some corners it’s cheapening human dignity.

    Some aid workers admit they turned to generative AI out of necessity, citing budget cuts and the difficulty of obtaining real photographs with consent in crisis zones.

    But as one communications director confessed in a recent interview, “We thought we were saving time. Now we’re not sure what we’ve lost.”
