    Crushon AI-vs-Spicychat AI

So, for reasons I don’t fully understand, I’ve recently been using a pair of AI girlfriend apps out of curiosity. You know, the normal things: seeing how the chatbots function, creating pictures, and whether or not to respond when your AI girlfriend calls you “babe” at 2am.

Regardless, this is why I’ve ended up writing a comparison of Crushon AI and Spicychat AI. I wanted to know how they functioned, not what was advertised on the frontpage or what was listed in the FAQs, but the actual day-to-day interactions like chatting to them, creating a character, and such.

Both Crushon AI and Spicychat AI do the same thing, but they do it slightly differently. Some things are very similar, other things are very obviously designed to set one apart from the other.

    Crushon AI

    crushon ai homepage screenshot

Crushon AI seems to be built more for fans of pure roleplaying. It’s big on giving you the option to create custom AI characters and engage in uncensored chat, meaning you can talk about whatever you like without the content filters that are standard on most chatbot platforms. In reality, that means you can build a character, tweak their personality, and engage in roleplays as involved as you like, including explicit content if you’re in the mood for it.

    Spicychat AI

    spicychat homepage screenshot

Spicychat AI does largely the same thing, but it’s more geared toward longer roleplays and story telling. It’s all about engaging in long chat sessions where the AI can remember what you’ve said to it and respond in a more storytelling-focused way. Whenever I used it, it felt less tool-like and more like roleplaying with a character.

    Diversity

I learned that having more diversity among the AI models really does make a difference. If all of the AI models feel the same, that immersion will be lost. It’s more fun to play around with these services when you have different personalities, different character styles, and you can explore those without being overwhelmed by random AIs.

    Crushon AI Diversity

Speaking of diversity, I was really surprised at the number of AI models that Crushon had. The number of community-created AI models is quite large, ranging from anime-inspired characters, fantasy, and more realistic models. I actually spent more time browsing through AI models than I thought I would, simply because it was easier to explore what other users had created. As for filtering AI models, Crushon does that decently well too.

You can filter AI models by tag, popularity, and user rating. The user rating system that I mentioned before helps quite a bit. Rather than aimlessly wandering through AI models, you can just look at the top-rated users and see what’s popular at the moment. If you don’t like what you see? Well, that’s okay. You can create your own AI model from scratch, configuring the personality, backstory, and appearance to whatever your desired AI model is. That’s one of the strengths of the service.

    Spicychat AI Diversity

In terms of diversity, I think Spicychat AI is a bit more limited. There are AI models, of course, but the emphasis seems to be more on roleplay scenarios. What I liked about Spicychat AI was the emphasis on context and world-building. Rather than just roleplaying with AI models, you can create personalities and lore for those models. The Lorebook system that I tested out is key to this. It enables AI models to remember the world-building and backstory when chatting. Filtering and discovery isn’t quite as robust as Crushon’s user rating system, but in this case, the emphasis seems to be more on building a roleplay scenario than discovering AI models.

AI Dialogue Test – Which Feels Better

The chat system is the real star of the show for both services. Everything else, images, voice acting, AI models, is all in service to providing a good chat experience. When I played around with the chat system, I tried to challenge both services a bit. Flirting, world-building, roleplay scenarios, asking questions, etc. Sometimes I tried to break the AI to see how it would react.

Surprisingly, both services performed admirably, although the chat style is quite different. Crushon AI seems to respond faster and emphasizes roleplay scenarios quite a bit. Responses are heavy on the description and dialogue. Spicychat AI seems to respond slower at times, but responses are longer and more narrative, almost like reading a passage from a book rather than having a conversation with an AI.

    Crushon AI Chat Test

In this first screenshot from my Crushon AI chat test, I’m forcing a roleplay situation on the chatbot and see how it responds. I posed a bit of a controversial question to elicit a stronger reaction from the AI and the chatbot responded with a narrative-style answer. Notice how the chatbot didn’t just give me a single sentence answer. It told me a story, describing the character’s emotional response and her body language.

    crushon ai chat test

When I was doing this chat test, I wanted to see if the chatbot would maintain a roleplay situation. Would the chatbot remain in character? Would she respond emotionally to the things I said to her? In this instance, the response attempted to maintain roleplay by describing her facial expressions and how she reacted while also answering my question.

It was attempting to create more of a narrative story rather than just a question and answer scenario which is what I was looking for in this chat test. If you want to see how well she remained in character throughout the rest of the chat test, I talk about that in my Crushon AI chat test.

    Spicychat AI Chat Test

In this second screenshot, I’m doing a similar thing with my Spicychat AI chat test, but with a different character. Here, I’m asking her a question to elicit a reaction to see how the AI handles tone, personality, and context. Again, the response from the character was a narrative answer with a mix of dialogue and story.

    spicychat ai chat test

What I found interesting about this response was that it was attempting to create a narrative while still answering my question. She answered my question, but she also told me how she reacted and what her facial expressions and body language looked like. This kind of response made the chat feel like we were creating a story together rather than just a question and answer session.

During my chat tests, I was throwing a variety of things at the characters to see if the personalities would hold or if they would break character after a few responses. Sometimes the chatbots start out well, but then quickly lose context of the chat. This particular screenshot was one of her first responses where she was attempting to create roleplay. To see how well she did throughout the rest of the chat test, check out my Spicychat AI chat test.

    Realism in AI Generated Characters

Image generation is where things start to get interesting. Rather than just chatting with an AI model, you can actually generate images based on prompts or conversations. In Crushon AI, image generation is frequently tied to the chat experience. You can prompt the AI model to send a photo, or generate an image based on a scenario.

    Crushon AI Generated Image

crushon ai image generator featured image

Results vary based on the AI model used, but generally, you can expect anime-inspired or semi-realistic images depending on the AI model.

    Spicychat AI Generated Image

spicychat ai image generator featured image

Spicychat AI also supports image generation in chat, although it feels a bit less integrated into the roleplay scenario compared to Crushon. Regardless, being able to generate images for AI models definitely adds another layer of immersion.

    Crushon AI Photo Generator

For this portion of my Crushon AI testing, I tested the AI image generation capabilities of Crushon AI. I created a new character and had the AI generate an image for me that represents the personality and tone of the chat. As you can see in the above image, the generated AI model is anime like with softer shading, proportions, and with an overall aesthetic of being an anime illustration.

    Another Image by Crushon AI

    crushon ai image generator

I ran several test prompts with Crushon AI and found that Crushon AI tends to generate more stylized images like this. This appears to be a preference for the type of users who utilize Crushon AI. It is more geared towards users who like fantasy or animated-like characters versus real life characters.

This is not a bad thing, because a lot of the characters in Crushon AI are fictional and used for role playing, so it makes sense that the generated image should be more fantasy like to match the chat. Spicychat AI Photo Generator

I also conducted the same testing for my Spicychat AI testing. However, for this test, I attempted to generate a more realistic image. Instead of an anime like character, I attempted to generate an image of a realistic model posing for a photo shoot. In the above image, you will see the generated image of a woman in a satin robe posing for a photo shoot in a kitchen. In the background you can see a city skyline through the window and a camera and lighting setup in the foreground.

    Another Image by Spicychat AI

    spicychat ai image generator

Immediately you can see the difference in the generated image from Crushon AI. The lighting, shading, and background all look more realistic and the image looks more like a photograph. You can see the reflection in the satin robe that the model is wearing and the depth of field in the background is more pronounced. In the background you can see a city skyline through the window and the lighting in the room is reflecting off of the satin robe.

Even the camera setup in the foreground looks realistic and I particularly like the black backdrop that was created in the foreground to create a more defined separation between the subject and the background. Crushon AI Token Pricing

Here’s the information I got when I visited Crushon AI’s token pricing page to determine how overages work outside of the plan structure. Alongside the monthly plans, there’s also a token system that you can use to purchase additional messaging credits once you’ve exhausted the credits included in your plan.

    crushon ai token pricing

The credit bundles range from $6 for 1,000 credits to $50 for 18,000 credits. The more credits you purchase in a bundle, the more you save (3,000 credits is roughly a 45% discount, 8,000 credits is roughly a 50% discount, 18,000 credits is roughly a 55% discount), which implies that the more you buy, the better for Crushon AI.

It looks like the vast majority of token purchases are applied to messaging, particularly if you’re accessing more premium AI models. There are also “Pro models” that require a membership, so tokens are intended to enhance your subscription, not necessarily circumvent it.

In terms of media creation, the token pricing page doesn’t specify the cost of creating an image or video. Again, this points to Crushon AI being more geared toward conversational experiences rather than pure media creation.

    Crushon AI Subscription Pricing

This is my analysis of this part of Crushon AI’s Subscription pricing page as I was attempting to figure out their pricing model. As you can see Crushon AI doesn’t just have 2-3 plans like most services. They have various plans based on your usage of the chat platform.

    crushon ai subscription pricing

They have a Free plan with 100 monthly message credits and they have a basic AI model with restricted capabilities. Their paid plans are as follows Standard ($7.99/mo), Premium ($14.99/mo) and Luxe ($25.99/mo). The plans give you additional monthly message credits and unlock additional features such as increased memory, longer responses, and faster responses.

Then they have higher plans like the Elite ($79.99/mo) and Imperial ($199.99/mo) which give you a substantial increase in monthly message credits and unlock additional features such as increased conversation history, multi-chats, and priority responses. They also have a Chat Pro plan ($39.99/mo) or ($479.88/yr) before discounts that give you unlimited access to Pro AI models without deducting from your monthly message credits. It seems they have a 37% discount and Crushon AI may offer discounts frequently.

It’s very evident that Crushon AI’s plans are meant to be used for chatting. Yes, they do support image creation within chat, however, they don’t have dedicated image/video creation plans and they are focused on messaging and AI model access plans.

    Spicychat AI Token Pricing

Now let’s talk about the cost of Spicychat AI. The first thing I saw was the token system. I had to read this page before I actually understood what was going on. Essentially the tokens are the currency for the AI interactions. You use tokens when you send a message. The AI responds and you use tokens. You use tokens when you make characters. The screenshot above states that the amount of tokens available to you is based on the plan you have.

    spicychat token pricing

As a free user you have up to 3,072 tokens available. That limits the amount of conversations you can have before the context is reset. The next plan, Get a Taste, increases that to about 4,096 tokens. Then the True Supporter plan doubles it again to 8,192 tokens. And lastly the I’m All In plan doubles it again to 16,384 tokens. This essentially means that the higher the tier you are, the more the AI can remember.

The more context it can remember, the more you can roleplay and story tell because the AI can remember more of the conversation history instead of having to reset it halfway through a chat. I did not see prices for tokens for generating images or videos on this page. I am assuming that the tokens are only for chatting and responding with the AI and not for generating media.

    Spicychat AI Subscription Pricing

The second image is a screenshot of the Spicychat AI pricing page. In comparison with other platforms, it’s relatively simple. The three tiers are as follows:

    spicychat subscription pricing

Get a Taste $5.00/mo: Removes ads, allows queue skipping, and offers the memory manager and user persona tools. (The free tier but actually useful for chatting.) True Supporter $14.95/mo (most popular) : 8K conversation context, longer responses, conversation images, additional models, 50 personas. I’m All In $24.95/mo : 16K conversation context, priority generation, additional advanced models (SpicyXL), more personas, TTS.

There is a button to pay annually, which gives you around 17% discount, implying they reward year long commitments. In terms of Spicychat AI’s pricing structure, it seems like they limit you based on conversation tokens and model access rather than charging for image and video generation specifically.

    Verdict on Pricing and Features

Crushon AI and Spicychat AI had different ideas on pricing. Crushon AI appears to be a combination of a subscription and credit-based model where your credits are messages. Typically, you have a free tier with X amount of messages per month, and then there are paid tiers which are $5.99 and up per month depending on the number of messages and features you want to purchase. Tiers can range from a few thousand messages to unlimited, as well as increased memory and models.

Spicychat AI on the other hand appears to be more simplified in terms of pricing. It is a subscription-based service where each tier gives you a certain amount of memory, models, and features. The tiers are as follows. Paid tiers start at “Get a Taste”, $5/month, then “True Supporter”, $14.95/month, and lastly, “I’m All In”, $24.95/month which gives you the maximum amount of memory, priority generation queues, and better models.

In my experience with both platforms, I think Crushon AI is more geared towards users who are going to be chatting frequently and need to purchase messages on demand, whereas Spicychat AI seems to be more focused on providing users with better AI models and more memory on a subscription basis. Neither is necessarily better than the other, they just seem to serve different use cases.

    Crushon AI Unique Feature

    crushon ai unique feature

One of the standout features of Crushon AI is the way it displays a community-wide ranking of character creators. You can still generate random AI characters and chat with them as usual, but there’s also a rankings page where you can view the top-rated character creators and their most successful personalities.

Opening this page is a bit like viewing a leaderboard in a video game: you see a list of user icons with their highest-rated characters underneath and a rating based on how well their characters have been received. This adds to the overall sense of community and competition on the site. Creators can compete with one another to develop the best AI characters.

I appreciated this feature because it made it easier to discover new characters. Rather than generating random characters or searching for characters based on a keyword, I could visit the top creators and see what some of the most popular AI characters on the site were. This helps to foster a sense of community on the site and makes Crushon feel less like a simple tool and more like a platform hosting a community of creators and their AI personalities.

    Spicychat AI Unique Feature

    spicychat unique feature

One of the unique features of Spicychat AI is the Lorebooks feature. When I first saw it, I assumed it was just another settings menu. But when I started playing around with it, I realized that it was actually a pretty robust tool.

Essentially, Lorebooks is a tool that lets you create a sort of knowledge base for a character or fictional world. You can give the book a title, write descriptions, upload images, and save background information about characters, places or plot points. This information can then be referenced by the AI during roleplay sessions without counting toward your daily token limit or being forgotten.

In effect, you can use the Lorebooks feature to flesh out a sort of mini universe for your AI character. And instead of details being gradually forgotten as you roleplay, they are saved in the background where they inform your roleplay going forward. If you like to engage in long-term storytelling or roleplay, a feature like this can actually make a big difference in how engaging your roleplay is.

    Crushon AI Safety

Crushon AI is an 18+ platform. This means that not only do you have to be 18 or over to use it, but the AI models also don’t have the same restrictions that you might find elsewhere.

This is both good and bad. On the one hand, it’s great for roleplay scenarios. On the other hand, you will have to be responsible for the content you create.

    Spicychat AI Safety

Spicychat AI seems to strike more middle ground. Whilst it does allow for adult content, it does seem to focus a bit more on the roleplay side of things. It also mentions guidelines and moderation in place to prevent abuse.

In reality, this just means that it’s a bit more restrictive than Crushon AI, but still suitable for adult roleplay.

    Crushon AI Support

Crushon AI mostly comes in the form of community support. There are various documentation and FAQs available, as well as a discord community.

In reality, it does exist, but sometimes you have to go on a bit of a hunt for it. However, the community is quite active.

    Spicychat AI Support

Spicychat AI seems a bit more structured in terms of support. There are more documentation and explanation, particularly when it comes to things like token limits and the various subscription plans.

In my experience, it was easier to find information on the plans and features.

    Conclusion

After a fair amount of use of both, I reckon my view on that is fairly straightforward. Crushon AI is primarily a roleplay tool. Spicychat AI is more of a story tool. Crushon AI excels at character content, and at content that is driven by community. If you want to try out different models, and mess around with scenarios, Crushon is probably the tool for you. If you prefer something more story led, Spicychat is probably the way to go.

Neither is perfect. Both have flaws. Both have limitations. And of course, both have moments where you are reminded that you are dealing with AI. But both offer something a bit different. And you know what? That’s not a bad thing. One of the fun things about the AI companion space at the moment is just how different all the various tools are, even when they’re ultimately offering the same basic functionality.
