    Crushon AI-vs-Soulgen

I kinda got this idea from being a moron and testing AI girlfriend apps, sometimes I wanted to create an AI girl, sometimes I just wanted to generate a picture of her, or animate a video of her, etc. So that’s pretty much what this comparison is. I played around with Crushon AI and Soulgen, clicked around, tested things out and decided to write this comparison. They seem similar at first glance but after playing around with them for a bit they kinda have different feelings to them.

    Crushon AI

    crushon ai homepage screenshot

Crushon AI seems to be more focused on the chatting, roleplay and customization of AI girlfriends. From what I can tell, their platform rewards longer form conversations and story-telling type scenarios and there’s lots of tools to aid you in keeping the personality and memory of your chat partner intact between conversations. The whole thing is quite focused on the interaction side of things over the media generation side.

    Soulgen

    soulgen homepage screenshot

Soulgen on the other hand seems more focused on the media generation aspect of AI girlfriends. Their platform is more of an art studio/video studio where you describe an AI girl to them, and they generate a picture or animation for you. They do have chat features, but it feels like more of a tacked-on feature rather than the main attraction.

    Diversity

I think that diversity is one of the most important things for any AI companion. If they all seem the same, then you’re gonna get bored of them really quickly. I’m not just talking about their looks. I’m talking about personalities, scenarios, art styles, and most importantly, how easy it is for you to browse through all the content and find one that you actually want to look for.

    Crushon AI Diversity

Crushon AI Content Diversity I was actually quite surprised at how diverse Crushon AI’s character content is. You can create your own characters, define their personality, backstory, and roleplay scenarios, and then share them with others. On the content page, you can browse through characters by categories, rankings, and creator. So, you can look through different characters without having to endlessly scroll through random avatars.

Some characters are designed to look more like anime girls, some are more realistic, and some only care about their personality. One thing that I was really impressed with is the fact that their roleplay scenarios can keep track of their memory. They can remember stuff you did previously in the roleplay and act accordingly. This means that roleplaying with them can be a lot more diverse and less repetitive.

    Soulgen Diversity

Soulgen Content Diversity Soulgen’s content diversity is a bit different. Instead of browsing through personalities, you’re browsing through generated characters and art content. You can input prompts for the character’s looks, pose, clothes, background, etc. So, the diversity of content depends on how diverse your prompts are. In my experience, I found that Soulgen’s best strength is photorealistic content, especially girl’s faces.

You can also keep the same face between multiple generated images. You can even make a 3-second animation out of the image. Another cool thing about Soulgen is the face swap feature. You can upload your picture, swap the face with the generated content, and boom. You have got a lot more characters to play with.

AI Chat Tone and Style Compared

Now let’s talk about the chatting features for both platforms.

Crushon AI Chatting Chatting is the main attraction of Crushon AI. You can talk to your character, and they will respond. Some characters support long roleplay scenarios, and you can even talk to them with your voice. Yes, they can also respond with voices.

Soulgen Chatting Soulgen does have a chatting feature as well. However, compared to the art generator, it’s quite lacking. You can only really chat with the character with short prompts, and it doesn’t really support long roleplay scenarios like Crushon AI does.

    Crushon AI Chat Test

For Crushon AI, I decided to really challenge the AI with a dominant and flirtatious role play. I started with a pretty bold statement that essentially challenged Crushon AI to step closer and asked whether or not it would play nicely. Instead of just a short and simple answer to my question, I received a long narrative response that included body language, an internal struggle, and even a slight change in power dynamics.

    crushon ai chat test

The AI described what the character was doing, facial expressions, and even the way they felt. It was almost as if we were collaboratively writing a scene from a story instead of chatting. I was really impressed with how well Crushon AI stuck with the scene and really played up the tension and dynamics. It never really broke character and continued to be flirtatious and intense.

It felt like we were playing out a choose your own adventure style game while we chatted. If you want to know more about how the rest of the scene played out and if Crushon AI continued to chat like this, you should really read my Crushon AI chat test.

    Soulgen Chat Test

With Soulgen, I decided to try something similar. I asked the character what would happen if I told it to play nice. Again, it was a pretty flirtatious opener, and I was curious to see how it would respond. As expected, the response was far more lighthearted and flirtatious than it was intense. It wasn’t nearly as heavy as narrative and instead focused on a short response that was flirtatious and playful.

    soulgen chat test

The overall tone of the chat felt much more like sexting than it did a role-playing scenario. What I really took away from my experience with Soulgen is that it excels at short and sweet interactions. It’s great at providing romantic and flirtatious responses but doesn’t get weighed down in heavy narrative.

For some, that’s really great and exactly what they’re looking for. If you want to know more about what a longer conversation with Soulgen looks like and whether or not it can maintain that playful nature, you should read my Soulgen chat test.

    Image Prompt Quality and Results

Soulgen is showing more power here. Soulgen is primarily used to generate images of characters from text prompts.

    Crushon AI Generated Image

crushon ai image generator featured image

You describe a character and the algorithm renders the images. Crushon AI also has image generation, but it’s mostly used in chatting.

Characters can send images as part of the chat or unlock images as part of the chat.

    Crushon AI Photo Generator

I went for a bold anime-style image, since I have heard so much about Crushon’s more ‘attractive’ images. I wanted to see how attractive and anime-style I could get an image, so I opted for an anime-style lingerie image, set in a bedroom. I tested style consistency, anatomical accuracy, lighting accuracy, and expression accuracy, as well as the vibe of the image matching the personality. As you can see, Crushon’s image is very heavily stylized.

    Another Image by Crushon AI

The image has the polished anime look that you’d expect, with the sort of glow that comes from airbrushed skin. The facial expression is about as seductive as you’d expect from an anime-style image. The image feels purpose-made for roleplay scenarios, as intended. For more information on how well Crushon AI’s image generator does with different prompts and consistency testing, feel free to check out my Crushon AI image generator review.

    Soulgen Photo Generator

I opted for a more realistic image with Soulgen. I wanted to see how realistic Soulgen could get, so I opted for a high detail, realistic character in an evening dress. I set the image in a hallway. I tested for skin texture realism, lighting accuracy, depth accuracy, clothing detail, and cinematic look. The image is far more photorealistic than Crushon AI’s image. In fact, it almost looks more like a photoshoot than an image. I’m really impressed with the proportions and lighting.

The hallway looks deep and spacious, the reflections off the dress look good, and the shadowing looks accurate. The image has a very professional feel to it. Crushon AI Token Pricing

Crushon AI offers credit packs for their message system that’s used for more advanced models and scenarios. The prices for these credit packs range from 1000 credits for around $6 to 18000 credits for $50. The “save” tags you see, represent discounts applied to these credit packs, in this case, 45, 50 and 55% off. Keep in mind that you can purchase as many credit packs as you need, however, the more credits you buy, the more you save.

    crushon ai token pricing

With the credit system, every message you send and receive costs a certain amount of credits, depending on the scenario, AI model and features such as regeneration of responses, use of more advanced AI models and generation of images. The credit system works similar to a game credit system where you top up your balance and spend it whenever you need something.

If you mostly chat, you won’t need the biggest credit pack. However, if you generate a lot of AI images, engage in heavy roleplay, etc. you might need a bigger credit pack. Also, as you can see from the image above, there are discounts available almost all the time.

    Crushon AI Subscription Pricing

In the second image you can see the pricing for the subscription plans Crushon AI offers. The platform has a freemium model. This means that you can sign up and use the platform for free, however, you will hit the limitations sooner or later. After that, you have to upgrade to a paid plan to use the platform further. The cheapest plan is called Standard and costs around $5.99 per month and offers 2000 messages a month, while the Premium plan costs around $14.99 per month and offers 6000 messages a month.

    crushon ai subscription pricing

The Deluxe plan costs around $49.99 per month and offers unlimited messages, increased chat history and priority processing. There’s also a Luxe plan that costs around $39.99 per month and offers 20,000 message credits and extended AI response. I believe that this plan is created for users who have big roleplay scenarios, RP with multiple characters, etc. As you can see from the image above, Crushon AI combines the subscription model with the token system.

The subscription unlocks some features and messages, while you can still purchase tokens if you want to spend more or generate more media. Image generation and other advanced interactions also use tokens, so, the cost of generating media is the number of tokens you’ve used for that action. What I want to point out is that Crushon very aggressively promotes discounts, sales and annual plans.

For example, in the image above you can see that the yearly plan originally costs $479.88 per year and is discounted to $299.99 per year. This is a 37% discount. I see this kind of promotional activity from Crushon AI very often, therefore, prices may change over time.

    Soulgen Token Pricing

The first pricing page I encountered when exploring Soulgen was more like looking at the engine of a car. Rather than presenting packages of coins or shiny bundles, it outlines exactly how many credits things cost, which actually kind of helped me get my bearings. Everything on the site costs credits, image generation, image editing, chatting with AI girlfriend/boyfriend characters, video production, etc.

    soulgen token pricing

As you can see from the pricing table, making a basic AI girlfriend image costs around 1 credit per image, but using the “Looks Like” feature to match a specific aesthetic costs 2 credits per image. More advanced features like human models, image editing, or expanding an image cost about 3 credits per image.

Video production is the most expensive, it costs 10 credits for 5 seconds of video, so bigger videos can rack up pretty quickly. Even chat interactions are measured out, text chat takes about 0.2 credits per message, voice chat takes 1 credit per minute, and creating a new AI soulmate character takes about 10 credits.

I kind of appreciated this page, because it spells it out. If you know how many credits you have, you have a good idea of how much you can make before you run out. It’s a pay-per-feature thing where the more advanced tools (especially video) burn credits faster than chat and images.

    Soulgen Subscription Pricing

The second pricing screenshot is where Soulgen switches from explaining credits to pushing the Pro membership options. This is where it starts to feel like a more traditional subscription service. The site has a Pro plan that unlocks various premium features like removing image blur, enabling multi-creation, and priority processing when you generate content. One of the main benefits is that subscribers get 100 free credits a month, which is your budget for generating images, videos, or chatting with AI characters.

    soulgen subscription pricing

As you can see from the screenshot, there’s also a promotion banner offering up to 70% off, which is apparently a fairly common tactic for Soulgen. The monthly subscription is listed as originally $25.99 for 1 month, and the yearly subscription is originally $155.88 for 12 months before the discount is applied. The yearly option works out to about $7.58 a month after the discount, which makes it a bit cheaper for long-term use.

What jumped out at me here is that Soulgen combines subscriptions with the credit system. The membership unlocks features and gives you a monthly credit stipend, but you still have to budget your credits based on whether you’re generating images, editing characters, or making short AI videos. And going by the banners and discount tags, the site clearly has frequent sales and promotions, so the price you see this week may not be the price you see next week.

    How Pricing Stacks Up

We both did our best to decode the prices of both websites, we clicked through the credit pricing tables and I admit, I confused myself a few times, but I have to say that I got a distinct impression of both websites and their pricing model. Crushon AI offers a mix between a subscription model, where you get a certain amount of messages (which are reset every month), and a credit based system, if you exceed your monthly message limit. The plans start at $5.99 for a subscription and go up to $39.99-$49.99 for the premium plans, which include 1000 or even unlimited messages, depending on the plan.

Soulgen is more like a creative tool, with a credit based system. A pro subscription costs around $25.99 per month (it’s often on sale though) and you get around 100 credits per month, which you can use for creating images, rendering videos or chatting. The credits are used for various things like creating an image or generating a short video. Depending on what you create, your credits are used up.

So, in my opinion, after having used both, it’s a matter of philosophy. Crushon AI is more conversation and roleplay oriented, while Soulgen is more image and credit creation based. Both models aren’t bad or good per se, they just suit different needs. If you chat a lot, the message-based system of Crushon makes sense. If you create images or scenes, the credit system of Soulgen might be the better choice.

    Crushon AI Unique Feature

    crushon ai unique feature

As you can see in the screenshot above, there is a creator ranking feature. This was one of the first things that hinted to me that Crushon AI is less of a chatbot builder and more of a social platform. While I was experimenting with the interface, I discovered a leaderboard of the best-rated AI character creators along with their creations. Rather than being left with an empty list of bots, I was presented with a competitive community where creators can publish their characters, and other users can interact with them.

The rankings page displays top creators for the week/month along with their characters and rating scores. Apparently, each creator has built a few characters, and you can chat with them straight away. The entire system is loosely reminiscent of a gaming leaderboard that meets a content platform. Characters become popular, creators climb the ladder, and users discover new personalities through this system.

The best part about it is that it effectively turns the platform into a crowdsourced library of characters. Instead of every user building their own AI characters in isolation, Crushon AI lets creators compete and showcase their work. It makes the experience more fun and a bit similar to browsing a marketplace of AI personalities that keep getting better and better.

    Soulgen Unique Feature

    soulgen unique feature

The Soulgen screenshot above shows you a whole different story. Creators and communities? No. Soulgen’s all about the visual AI creation tools it seems, and this specific screenshot is a tutorial for the VR face swap maker on the site.

When I was experimenting with video generation, this tutorial popped up and taught me how to create VR content. It shows me what the platform recommends generating VR-like videos, like centering the face in the frame, even lighting, and avoiding extreme angles. They also show you examples of what good input and bad input looks like, so you can quickly understand what types of inputs the AI models can recognize.

I was able to experience this firsthand, and it truly highlights how hard Soulgen is pushing to aid in the creation of more realistic visual content. They don’t just give you a generator and say, “good luck, buddy”. They actually try to help you along the way by giving you concrete examples of what works and what doesn’t. That’s the type of tutorial that is so valuable, especially with more complex stuff like VR video and face swap generation.

It also says a lot about Soulgen’s overall vision. Some AI girlfriend sites are more about chat and roleplay, but Soulgen seems to be going all-in on visual media generation. Whether it be images, face swaps, or VR AI video, Soulgen has got you covered.
    Visit Soulgen

    Crushon AI Safety

Crushon AI Here Crushon AI is pretty clearly an adult platform with fewer rules so there’s more freedom in terms of what you can do with chat and roleplay and so on. But still, there are age rules, and there are some things that are not allowed according to the TOS.

    Soulgen Safety

Soulgen Soulgen is a bit more moderate. They have more explicit rules about harm and illegality, and generally they have more of a hand on what’s generated. Since so much of it is visual content, they have a lot of rules to prevent misuse of generated imagery or deepfakes and the like.

    Crushon AI Support

As I was using Crushon AI, it seems like most of the support was documentation and community support. They have FAQs and a knowledge base about how to use things. They also have a big community presence, especially in discord and creator communities, where you can ask questions and share characters.

    Soulgen Support

Soulgen Soulgen has more of a traditional support page. They have tutorials and guides and a help page about generating images and creating characters and using the face swap function and so on. Since most of the users are for content creation rather than chat, a lot of the support documentation is tutorial type support to walk you through the process of creating the things you want to create.

    Conclusion

After using both platforms, it seems like they have fairly different philosophies even though they are lumped into the same space. Crushon AI is more about chat and roleplay. It’s the kind of place you could chat with a character for an hour and watch a story unfold.

Soulgen feels more like a playground for content creation. It’s the kind of place you would go if you wanted to create some images, mess around with AI visuals, or animate a character into a short video clip. There isn’t necessarily anything wrong with either approach, it just depends on what you want. Some people want to chat. Some people want to create. These two platforms just happen to be on opposite sides of that spectrum.
