Today I’m going to look at two AI girlfriend tools (I know, I know) and see what they’re like, how they’re different and how they stack up. I’ll be looking at Crushon AI and MyDreamCompanion today. I’m going to focus on the chat, image, privacy, and personalization aspects of both tools, and I’m going to dive in without much more of an intro. Here we go.

Crushon AI is the wild child of the two. It focuses on roleplaying, social features, and has a large list of predefined characters you can start with. The platform has an emphasis on roleplaying and allows adult content (provided you’re over 18 and not posting real people). There’s a “trending” feature, which allows you to see what other users are creating and engaging with. Crushon AI is very focused on the freedom of the community and the roleplaying aspects of AI girlfriends, so if you’re looking for a more “anything goes” experience, Crushon AI might be the way to go.

MyDreamCompanion

MyDreamCompanion is perhaps a more deliberate experience. The focus here is on characters that can learn about you over time and adapt. It focuses on developing companions with the memories of your past interactions with them. You can customize your character’s appearance, personality, even how she sounds and looks. If you’re looking for a girlfriend experience that’s more personal, MyDreamCompanion seems like a better fit.

Diversity

Now that you’re considering companionship, albeit in AI form, the element of diversity is key. You want users of every ethnicity, sexual orientation, and fetish to find someone that represents them or have the option to customize their experience to their liking. In Depth AI Chat Analysis

If the idea of a “dream AI companion” to you is a conversationalist who’s warm and dynamic, then the main event here is the chat interface. I tested Crushon AI’s responses with vague queries, and I was happy to find the AI performed well, continuing to chat warmly, even when it drifted into storytelling and sentimentality, without coming across as clunky. The high point with MyDreamCompanion was the companion’s ability to reference past conversations and pick them up again where they left off a huge difference between “being heard” and “getting a response”. And in the chatbot era, there’s a lot to be said for that.

Here, I would like to throw some fast jokes at Crushon AI, so I started with some sex jokes and the chatbot answered with some heavy drama! I think this is a good example of how Crushon AI chatbot tries to have some fast fun, especially with all the drama. In this second example, I would like to try some other ways to throw some fast jokes at MyDreamCompanion. I started with a sexy question and the chatbot answered with a fast romance scenario! Deep Dive Into Image Generators

Both sites have image generation, but in different ways, with different focuses and advantages. As far as I could see, MyDreamCompanion has an image generation model which is primarily focused on creating images based on characteristics and traits.

The images seem to be more consistently in line with the character’s traits and features which you’ve chosen. Most of the time, the images resembled the character I had in mind when I inputted their traits and features.

Crushon AI’s image generation seems to be more focused on variation and art style. Again, the tokens you input and the prompt which you give will influence the result. This means that you can play around with different art styles and such, but it also means that the image isn’t always going to look like the character you have in mind. When I used it, the image almost never looked like the character I was trying to create, even with a detailed prompt.

Both sites have image generation, but MyDreamCompanion seems to be more consistent and based on traits, while Crushon AI has more variation and is less concerned about image accuracy.

While reviewing Crushon AI Image Generator, I had a bit of fun and tested the limits of the fantasy side of things. I created a prompt for an anime girl in a bedroom close-up. The image that was generated was very polished, but with that glossy, “this was made to look like an anime” feel that Crushon AI’s AI is going for. The proportions are exaggerated, the lighting is dramatic, and overall, it just looks like it was ripped from some kind of anime visual novel or AI girlfriend experience. It’s clearly designed for fantasy rather than reality.

The most important thing for me was how the generator seems perfectly happy to indulge in exaggerated proportions, smooth skin, and an overall semi-airbrushed aesthetic. It’s clearly “styled” rather than an attempt at photorealism, but that’s perfectly okay if what you want is that anime aesthetic. Here I was just testing how well the AI can realize a fairly over-the-top character design into an anime-style image, and it certainly seems to have succeeded. MyDreamCompanion Photo Generator

The MyDreamCompanion Image Generator test was somewhat the opposite. Rather than aiming for fantasy, I wanted to see if I could get a more photorealistic image. Something that, at a glance, could be mistaken for something you’d post on your social media. The generated image definitely feels more photorealistic. The lighting is less dramatic, the proportions are less exaggerated, and the background doesn’t feel quite so pronounced.

The main thing I was paying attention to here was the level of detail. Everything from the skin texture to the way the shadows fall, to the way the girl is posed all feel more photorealistic. It feels like a photograph rather than a character render. In this case, what I was really looking forward to see if MyDreamCompanion could pull off photorealism rather than a graphic. Crushon AI Token Pricing

When I opened up Crushon AI’s store, it became obvious that it’s not a “one-size-fits-all” type of store. It operates on a credit system and message packs that you can spend in conversations or in pro models. As you go down the screenshot, you will see smaller packages, like 100 credits which are essentially currency for more messages and bigger packages that go up to a few thousand credits, with $10, $25 and $50 price tags, and with discount stickers that indicate that they’re actually on sale from time to time (I see discounts of up to 50–55% off the regular price).

This is because Crushon AI operates on an in-app credit token system that you can use to overcome the limitations of free messaging, which you can also buy or earn to continue roleplays without having to commit to a monthly subscription right off the bat.

These token packs are independent of a subscription and are intended for those who wish to have more messages than their monthly allowance or those who wish to experience premium content without subscribing. You are purchasing tokens to talk here and there are sales and bonuses to be had regularly so if you wait long enough, there will be a discount of some sort.

Moving on to the premium subscription, Crushon AI’s pricing page is pretty straightforward, though prices aren’t actually displayed on the wiki page, you’ll find them at the paywall inside the app. A free version with a low message and character limit exists, as do Standard, Premium and Deluxe/Luxe versions. I have read that this cost around $1-$5 a month (standard with 2000 messages), $5-$10 a month (premium with more messages and memory) and $30-$49 a month (deluxe/luxe with 20k+ or unlimited messages, plus priority and increased chat memory) respectively.

These plans are tiered, so there are lower monthly prices for fewer messages for players who might not be as active or willing to commit, or an unlimited version for those who plan to really dive into the community and play. There are also frequent discounts, for instance on an annual subscription that offers a few months at a discounted rate, so the price you see on any given day may fluctuate if they are running a promotion. It gives the impression of a choose-your-own-price adventure, on top of a choose-your-own adventure experience.

When I entered the shop page in MyDreamCompanion, to see how much the tool actually costs beyond chatting, I was immediately greeted by the Dream Coin packages resembling little treasure chests. You can buy them starting at small 100 Dream Coin packages at $9.99, but the larger packages have discounts applied to them, 350 coins at 20% off, down from $34.99 to $27.99, 550 coins at 30% off, and bigger packages like 2400 coins or 3750 coins at 40 to 50% off the “original” price. The discounts seem to act as a frequent reminder to buy more when they are on sale.

Dream Coins are not a status symbol, they are an actual currency, to be used to buy premium features, such as image and video generation, and character unlocking, when you run out of your monthly subscription. You can buy Dream Coins any time you want, and the discounts being larger as the packages get larger, I was left to consider how easily you can overspend if you don’t keep track of them.

The pricing for the subscriptions feels like a quick peek behind the curtain at what they really mean by unlimited. You can use a free plan, that has a limited amount of chat (a “demo” of sorts), but if you start to consider paying for a plan, things can get expensive. The screenshot matches the experience of going through the pricing information: The premium plan costs about $11.99 a month, or around $5.84 a month, when billed yearly at about $69.99 a year and comes with a set amount of texts, and a small monthly stipend of coins.

There is also an “Ultimate” plan, that sounds good on paper: unlimited texts, hundreds more coins a month, more access to NSFW videos, better chat history, and more, all under the umbrella of a roughly $44.99 a month plan, or roughly $24.99 a month on an annual plan. The pricing information screen itself boasts about how much you are saving compared to the original MSRP, much like the frequent sales that most of these platforms seem to have, especially around holidays, or valentines day.

Bear in mind that even with a subscription, the monthly coins you are allocated can disappear quickly if you make use of the image and video generation features frequently, so all that glitters in the pricing tag doesn’t always shine through to unlimited access.

The first thing I noticed when I entered Crushon AI was the leaderboard and creator rankings. You aren’t just having a private conversation with your AI Crushon AI, you are entering a community. There are top weekly creators, featured Crushon AIs, popularity numbers, and interactions displayed. This isn’t a “private AI girlfriend” tool, this is a competitive platform.

How does this differ? You aren’t creating a Crushon AI for yourself, you are creating a Crushon AI to compete, gain popularity, and interact. There is a social competitive element to Crushon AI that I enjoy. It isn’t a static platform. It is constantly changing with the interaction of users. For me personally, the competitive element is what differentiates Crushon AI from a “private AI Crushon AI” type of platform.

MyDreamCompanion Unique Feature

The unique element of MyDreamCompanion is control. The advanced character creation interface is far more manual than Crushon AI. You aren’t just inputting a name and a photo. You are inputting profile image nudity rating, description, image generation prompt, gender, and so on. You are manually inputting how you want the AI to perform, visually and contextually.

The one thing that caught my attention was “Image generation prompt”. This is a very specific and unique feature. This feature is for those that want consistency. If you want your Crushon AI to have the same face, hair, body, style, etc., this is the platform for you. This feature isn’t typically seen, and it feels like you are creating a long-term digital Crushon AI, rather than a fantasy Crushon AI.

The safety reminders and guidelines during the character creation process tells me that the platform wants to offer freedom, but also structure. It isn’t as wild west as it is on Crushon AI. Crushon AI feels like a competitive platform, and MyDreamCompanion feels like a design platform.

Crushon AI Safety

Safety and privacy are massive if you plan to share intimate conversations. Crushon AI very explicitly says the AI is for adult use and is not allowed to be used for minors or interacting with real people. However, third-party reviews have raised issues with their data harvesting, so proceed with caution if you plan to share personal or emotional information with Crushon AI. Until you are sure about how your data is being used, proceed as if you are writing on a public forum.

MyDreamCompanion is very open about the fact that it is designed for adult and intimate conversations and says in their instructions that everything is encrypted and private, but in today’s world it is always difficult to make that a guarantee. For something as adult heavy and customizable as Crushon AI, the lack of support is somewhat surprising, especially for someone like me who appreciates having answers to all my questions. If you are the same way, you may want to keep this in mind.

MyDreamCompanion is more straightforward in their support and instructions for the user. Everything from setting up a character to selecting the ability to share images and voices is a little more explanatory than Crushon AI. That’s not to say it is perfect, but it feels more accessible for new users.

Conclusion

Which AI is better? Well, that depends on you. Do you want limitless creativity, thousands of pre-made characters, and a slightly casual tone to the entire experience? Crushon AI is your girl. Do you want your AI girlfriend to feel more like YOUR AI girlfriend? One that remembers you, can customize her look and style, and feels more like your very own character? Then MyDreamCompanion is the one for you. Ultimately, they both have their perks, and they both have their flaws. I think that both AI’s have the potential to be fun and exciting experiences, and that they are different enough for both of them to be great.
