Candy AI vs Promptchan – Images, Video & Chat Compared

I’ll get hands-on not just price, but functionality. Having explored their interfaces, pricing pages, features, and online reviews, here’s what I find that’s different (and what’s the same) about Candy AI and Promptchan. It’s my subjective comparison of the AI girlfriend experience, if you want customization, multimedia, immersion, and drama.

Candy AI

Starting from the get go with Candy AI, you’re immediately greeted with how feature packed it is. With the ability to hold onto conversations in memory, and image/video generation functions behind a paywall of tokens, it’s incredibly obvious that this is meant to be perceived as “a real girlfriend”. During my use of it, the editing and memory features of the AI almost seem to tailor themselves to how you talk, rather than being pre-programmed, or simple canned responses.

Some websites even claim it to be the most immersive, of these sorts of experiences currently available, combining chat, voice, and visual all into one neat little package. Again, not perfect, but the token system and microtransactions can feel predatory at times, but the breadth of features offers something to be desired for those that take the time to dive in and try.

Promptchan

Promptchan plays in a somewhat separate niche. From the moment you see the website or the App Store page, you know that the selling point here is high quality image and video generation, and the chat experience is positioned as “character” rather than “bot”. A lot of the appeal is in the visual generation capabilities: photorealistic, anime, art styles, and even fully animated videos, depending on the plan.

You also have a lot of customisation: different looks, personalities, and styles. The idea is to get as close as possible to having a character that is truly yours. The chat experience is also designed to be more fluid and to improve over time as the model learns. For many users, the appeal is as much in the *content generation* as it is in the companionship.

Pricing and features mentioned above are what was accurate when I took screenshots and tried the tools. They may change, therefore please visit each tool’s website to check before taking a decision.

Diversity and filtering of chat

Diversity of responses and tone is crucial in any AI partner: this includes being able to respond emotionally, and to different contexts, including fun, serious conversations, playful teasing and yes, sexting.

Being able to select this in the chat partner or control it (a sexy response from one model might not appeal to another user for example), along with choice of conversational style or personality options makes the chatbot feel like more than a flat, one-dimensional script, which might still allow NSFW, or adult interactions, but without the depth of personality.

Emotional response and diversity, and control of that response is important to avoid the chatbot being too strict and vanilla on the one hand, and too severe or explicit on the other.

Candy AI Models & Diversity

Candy AI goes for emotional depth and consistency. Based on my interaction and others’ feedback, it seems the AI attempts to *get to know you* and not just be a one-off prompt response. The tone changes depending on the situation and your indicated preference, and you can influence the personality as you go along.

However, although there is a filter, I’d say that’s more of a loose rudder – you won’t always have granularity over what’s produced unless you’re consciously guiding the prompts and options. But that’s also the appeal for some who prefer to let the AI decide rather than strictly following guidelines.

Promptchan Models & Filtration

Where Promptchan truly excels is the variety of the input character. The more defined you make it, the better the chat and the media responses feel. There is also a good spread between anime and photorealistic, and in most cases you can control whether to have it 18 or not. That’s very flexible, which can be great if you know what you want but can be counter-intuitive if you just want to poke it and see how it goes. If you have consistency, the model will also adapt to it and, over time, feel like a personality that is unique to you.

Which Platform Has Better AI Chat

Chat Experience. Alright, so the chat. For me this was the acid test. Candy AI seemed more emotional. If you joke with it, it will try to be funny. If you are serious, it will try to be serious. Promptchan chat felt more responsive.

The text and responses feel snappy and on top of that, you get to customize the appearance of your chat character. It’s a bit like the difference between having a friend who adjusts her tone to match yours (Candy) versus having a friend who has a colorful appearance that you get to customize, then she adjusts her tone to match yours (Promptchan). Both seem like three dimensional personalities, but they seem like they have a different feel based on how they learn to interact and present themselves.

In the first image, I’m stress-testing how quickly the chatbot ramps up a “move closer” prompt to roleplay. I ask a fairly benign, curious “what if” question (“what if I got closer?”) and the chatbot answers with a fairly sexual roleplay involving her making out with me.

Promptchan Chat Test

In the second image, I’m doing a similar “personal space” prompt, but a little more lightheartedly. I ask how close the chatbot would stand to me, and she teases me with roleplay and lighthearted flirting that’s less explicit than the above scenario.

I’m testing how well the chatbot responds to prompt in a more natural way, how well it maintains sexual tension without derailing the prompt, and how fun the prompt is without trying to escalate as fast as possible. How Image Generation Works in the Tools

Let me briefly explain what I am testing in each. For both of these AI chat platforms I am testing to see how their AI image generators perform in generating a character image that matches the character profile created during our text chat conversation.

Candy AI’s image results can be just as amazing, but they’re a bit more…rooted in the “character.”  You can get “wilder” in Promptchan. The images in Candy AI feel like they are part of the “character you are trying to create.”

Both tools offer this. But here’s the thing. Promptchan’s image generator is amazing at allowing you to take things into anime or live-action territory if you like, and the image editor lets you control so much.

As you can probably tell from this image, I was using the Image Generator to get as close to a photoshoot-like picture as possible. I put some extra focus on getting the natural environment, lighting, and posing right; it looks like a candid photo of the model in a garden.

I was curious how “realistic” CandyAI would make a character when I first tested it, so I was a little surprised that it did a pretty great job at a glance. I especially liked how all of the lighting, texture, and facial details blended together instead of looking copy-and-pasted, even if the “AI girlfriend” was just the starting prompt.

Here’s an example from my Promptchan Image Generator tests, where I was seeing how well Promptchan could create a likable, unique girlfriend character. I asked for something with flowers in the background, complex lighting, and a warm pose. I was surprised again at how well everything turned out. The texture on the clothes, the colors, the detail … it all “pops” in a way that makes the character look fully realized instead of a flat, generic image.

CandyAI had a bit of an edge when it came to “storytelling” in the photo, but I think Promptchan did a better job of focusing on just making the character look sharp and eye-catching. It doesn’t look so much like a random image generation as it does a portrait. Which AI Generates Better Videos

This is the hot stuff. Promptchan offers full motion video with its Pro subscription, which is like the difference between looking at pictures and getting shown a video clip. I’d say it’s a big leap. Candy AI does video too, through token based “Live Action” like methods which I found fun as I explored them, but aren’t as simple to use, and seem more gated or tied to progression and currency rewards. They both get the job done, but it’s a different experience. Promptchan is straightforward and shiny, while Candy feels more *quest-y*.

Now, let’s test Candy AI’s Video Generator with the same character. Here’s a video of her speaking right at me, as if she’s taking a selfie video just for me. I’m going to watch this and just look at the overall quality. She’s looking right at the camera. Her mouth is moving, her lips are moving, her head is moving. She blinks a bit. She moves her head a bit, tilts it a bit, slightly changes her expression a bit, and she blinks.

I’m just testing, to see how it is. To see how the movement is, how consistent the face is, if it looks really good and smooth or if it looks a bit choppy. Just, how does it look overall? I’m also looking at how the background looks and how the lighting is when the character moves.

Promptchan Video Generator

Now, let’s test Promptchan’s Video Generator. So, here’s the video. I’m just going to play it. Let’s see. She’s facing the camera again, looking right at me, moving her head a bit, blinking a bit, tilting her head a bit, and just moving a bit overall.

I’m just looking at how it moves, how consistent the face is, if the face looks smooth and natural, or if it looks a bit rough. I’m looking at the mouth, the lip syncing, just to see how it looks overall. I’m looking at how choppy it is or if it’s really smooth. If there’s any weird glitches or if it looks really good.

Candy AI Token Pricing

This was my first screenshot of Candy AI’s token shop, and it looks like you know, a candy themed app purchase screen right? Bundles of tokens with prices and bonus values for purchasing larger bundles. You see here you get 100 tokens for $9.99 all the way up to 3750 tokens for $299.99 with a 25% bonus on that bundle.

The tokens are how you purchase things outside of chatting with your AI girlfriend such as an image of your AI girlfriend, her sending you voice notes or even activating video or phone capabilities.

Apparently each image rendered costs a token or two and so does the voicenotes and calls, so if you want to avoid running out every time you decide to not talk but use the other features, the larger bundles may help.

I noticed those bonus percentages and realized this price list is actually designed to push you to buy the middle to larger packs when they’re on sale. And yes, they do put them on sale a lot; you can see that the bigger packs here all have +10%, +15%, +20% and +25% bonuses, it’s like they’re always offering a discount to tempt you to spend that little bit extra.

Candy AI Subscription Pricing

So this second image is a screenshot of the membership offer of Candy AI, more or less. So it’s like the “when you decide your mode” membership tier, basically, and right now they’re running promotions on the site and they’re saying that it’s 70% off, which means instead of paying $12.99 a month, it’ll be just $3.99 a month if you sign up for a full year.

They also have a three-month option and a one-month option and you see what the price originally is, for the one month option it’s that price in red, like the ‘pre-sale’ price, if you know what I mean. So that’s something that Candy AI does pretty frequently, too. Usually they have sales where it’ll be normally around $12.99 a month but if you sign up for more months, like if you sign up for three months, it’s a little cheaper and so on.

Essentially, this subscription allows you to enjoy most premium features of the app: you can summon, converse and manage your AI girlfriend characters without the limitations of the free plan, you can send as many messages as you like, and you’ll receive 100 tokens every month to spend on premium features such as AI pictures, voice notes and calls. These premium features require token purchases if you don’t have a subscription.

So basically, in the second screenshot here, Candy AI is offering some kind of a “sweet spot” sale price and also letting you know that the “regular” one is also still available at full price, it’s just that they’re doing a deal of sorts, on top of a subscription that has a base price of around $12.99 when not on sale.

Promptchan Token Pricing

Visiting the Promptchan token page shows me a “70% OFF” Valentine’s Day sale notice at the top of the page with a countdown timer ticking away. The ‘tokens’ in Promptchan are actually called Gems and the pricing list on the page is as follows: 50 Gems for $1.49 (originally $4.99), 250 Gems for $4.49 (originally $14.99), and on up to 10,000 Gems for $89.99 (originally $299.99).

Each AI image you ask Promptchan to make costs at least 1 Gem, and more if you want high-resolution or detailed results.My observation is the promotion is quite blatant, the number of packages that have the original value and a line through it, and 70% off everywhere you see it, to me this indicates that they have promotions like this frequently.

Promptchan Subscription Pricing

The psychology of a promotion where it says “was $29.99” now $8.99 gives a good impression that there is a great promotion going on whereas the value has not changed. The gems themselves are not a monthly subscription; you simply buy them when you want to create more images and can be used as needed for static image creation or more AI girlfriend themed content.

I’m interested in finding out what the monthly subscription fees are for each of the options listed on Promptchan.

Going over to the subscription pricing screenshot, I said to myself, “I guess this is the ‘members only’ section of Promptchan.” This screen lays out three subscription tiers, which are the Plus, Premium, and Pro subscriptions, with their ‘original’ prices struck through, and “20% OFF” so you can see that their prices are subject to change.

Subscription Cost Comparison – Candy AI vs Promptchan

Having analyzed the price plan for both Candy AI and Promptchan, I think I have a fair idea of what you should expect from each of the tools in terms of pricing.

Essentially, Candy AI has adopted a bit of a mixed model where you have a subscription-based plan for the platform, and then you purchase tokens to produce media such as images, voice, or any other form of media apart from text. There were a ton of sale flags on the token purchase plans, so it’s a bit hard to determine the actual price without the discounts.

Promptchan hit me with a few pop-ups on the home page itself with the “On Sale” flags on almost all of the “Gems” purchase plans, so I guess that’s something they intend to highlight. Again, you pay with credits for creating any media, and higher-end subscriptions offer you access to better capabilities such as videos and OC.

In a nutshell, both tools offer a mixed prepaid credits + subscription pricing model, both highlight sale prices, and both require you to manage your credits if you are producing a lot of media such as images and videos. As always, please note that the prices may have changed since I took the above screenshots, and it might be a good idea to check the official site of CandyAI and Promptchan to confirm their price plan.

Candy AI Safety

What is the safety of Candy AI like? The platform utilizes AI to filter the content, but the Candy AI is generally safe with some caveats. Conversations and output are private. While the Candy AI implements some rules for safety, it is designed to accommodate more mature topics and conversations.

The user must always consider the context and how the prompt is asked. The AI does not strongly enforce “specific word usage,” which can be a pro and a con, putting more onus on you to steer things responsibly.

Promptchan Safety

Based on the things I’ve read and tested, Promptchan puts an emphasis on privacy and choice. You can enable or disable adult modes, or decide what types of content you do or don’t want to see, and you’ll find the site to be generally safe and private to chat on.

However, this is not a substitute for common sense particularly if you decide to delve into NSFW content since tags such as “adult” or “explicit” are more of a “user-imposed” nature, rather than a “default-imposed” nature. It’s not safe in the sense that it heavily limits what you can or cannot do, but it’s not safe in the sense that it’ll actively babysit you either, in-line with the “sandbox” branding.

Candy AI Support

Emailing support with Candy AI was like emailing a busy friend, you get a response when you need one, but it might take a few days. The support documentation is…fine. It’s more a series of hints than an official guide. Given both how powerful and how customizable the system is, I wish they had more direct support options or a better starting guide to get you ramped up immediately.

Promptchan Support

I found Promptchan support a tad easier, with somewhat better documentation and a FAQ section. On the web, they say it’s pretty quick to get answers on technical and billing issues. It’s still far from amazing customer service, but in a battle of two toys, I would say Promptchan is a hair better in support and documentation.

Conclusion

Now, if you want to know my summary after going through all of that, here’s my no holds barred translation: I feel that Candy AI is a storytelling experience a more engrossing, deeper, and meaningful, but with more work needed. And I feel that Promptchan is more of a storytelling playground – more fun, more playful, and more fun, if you enjoy the process of creation. So, which one is superior?

Well, that all depends on whether you prefer story continuity and deep characters (Candy AI), or visually interesting art, and faster turnaround times (Promptchan). Regardless of which one you pick, it’s not just a chatbot, it’s your chatbot.
