Candy AI vs OurDream – What You Won’t Find in Ads

Curious what dating an artificial intelligence is like? Me too. I “dated” two popular AI girl friend programs, Candy AI and OurDream, to see what all the fuss is about, and have come to some interesting conclusions about the experience.

This isn’t your typical list of features and facts, there’s character, there’s flaws, and there’s a unique element to each if you’re looking for drama or something a bit more adult. Sometimes I was surprised, other times baffled, and others impressed. Let’s dive in!

Candy AI

You hop on, select a companion and BAM! She answers, which at times, can be so conversational you begin to believe you’re talking to an actual person. The appeal of Candy AI is the fact that you can make your own or select companions, with tons of personality options.

Reviews on the internet and ‘features lists’ always mention the array of body shapes, personalities, voice options and much more you can customize so that every conversation is specific to your liking. I enjoyed how despite the glitches and kinks, Candy AI utilizes image and voice, even video at times in the chat.

However, everything costs tokens after a while, and from what I’ve read online, most people purchase more tokens after the first month or so. That’s not a problem, just keep in mind you’ll be buying more for multimedia content.

OurDream

OurDream by comparison seems like the more considered conversationalist of the group. Once you get going, it’s almost as if there’s some kind of setting, like there’s a story going on somewhere behind that conversation.

Many online commenters say its recall and continuity are amongst the best, and once you play around with it, it’s easy to see why.

The real distinguishing factor to me, however, was not only the chat content but the overall environment. You see there is a community aspect to it – you have user-generated content, “Dreamers” to explore and the ability to socialize with others which makes it less one-on-one.

Several commenters and reviewers have mentioned the variety of avatars and the ability to interact with others as a positive feature if you are looking for a less scripted response.

Why diversity and filtering matter

Prior to jumping out of your chair at a table of “YES/YES”, keep in mind that “features” aren’t everything. One of the reasons platforms feel “different” or “more expansive” is the level to which you can access features.

When it comes to diversity of personalities, voices, and styles – as well as content filters – you want to be able to control how AI grasps subtlety, how it changes tone without breaking immersion, and how adult content appears – or doesn’t appear – where you want it, not just where the platform does.

What I found with Candy AI is that it doesn’t just provide you with a “standard beau/belle” but that you can create entire lists of companions with totally different appearances and personalities. Some are chatty and sweet, some are flirtatious and some are pretty much anything else inbetween.

Other reviews on the site also mention that you can customize a lot more than most sites, such as body shape, hair style, facial expression, and even personality types. However, the filtering system and content control seemed a bit of a maze – they have rules and guidelines that are adhered to but aren’t always clear unless you hit one and the system stops you in your tracks.

If you try something a little bit ‘different’ you might get a “soft block” or a scripted response that basically reminds you that even in the sexy land of naughty, there are rules. Some even mention that the picture returned isn’t always the same based on how you word your prompts so there are some filters in place.

OurDream – Diversity and Filtering

OurDream’s diversity comes across as more social. It isn’t a matter of selecting one set of options and praying that the AI adheres to that – diversity of content is there because other people have created things, and you can build off of them, or modify them, or otherwise interact with them.

And as you can see in the reviews and ratings, that gives it a reputation for being “one of the most versatile” options for creating conversations, as well as for creating visual and story-based content. Content filtering, on the other hand, is more of a “set it before you go” kind of thing.

Still filtered, they’re not going to let you get away with everything – but you can set the parameters of what you want to get out of it before you even start. Which makes it seem a little more deliberate than something where you have to change the filters halfway through.

AI Chat Personality Comparison

Let’s discuss the chat themselves. I’m referring to the chat you have with your avatar when it’s smooth or awkward.

Candy AI Chat Test

Here I wanted to step it up a bit and test how Candy AI would respond to something a bit more sexual. So I asked what if I stepped closer and the AI went into full-blown roleplay mode.

The response was sensual, descriptive and sexual, very direct and without any hesitation. It didn’t stutter, attempt to stop it or divert the subject. Instead, it raised the stakes and continued with very graphic body language and teasing dialogue.

What I was really testing here was responsiveness and the intensity level. The AI didn’t just respond, it escalated. The pace was right, the imagery vivid and it maintained its personality.

OurDream AI Chat Test

With OurDream I took a different approach. I asked it what it would tell me if we were alone. The prompt was still mildly sexual, but more romantic than sexual. The AI response was a lot more sensual, romantic and less sexual.

Instead of grabbing you by the balls and giving you a rough, oral banging, it focused more on an atmosphere, describing looking into eyes, the way to smile, and then a more subtle and romantic compliment. Very cinematic in its tone.

What I was really testing here was the subtlety of the AI, how well it responds to sexual yet romantic themes. OurDream performed well and returned a sensual and suggestive response without going overboard.

Generating Consistent Character Images

You can make images too. Well obviously. But one is definitely easier and better at it than the other. And some results look very real and some look like they need some more editing in Photoshop.

I want to challenge its ability to generate photorealistic images with more details in outdoor scenes. This time, I will give more details about the scene, which is: a sweet scene, in a lighted garden, posing in some delicate lingerie, with natural light, and posing confidently.

Well, I have to say the picture is very sharp. I can see the texture of the skin, the shadows, and the green leaves and flowers behind her. And she seems to be posing for the camera. It looks like a scene taken by a professional camera.

I want to try and control the composition of the picture, with pose, light, and contrast between the foreground and background. And the image generated by Candy AI is indeed a quite sharp, high definition picture, more similar to the glamour.

OurDream Image Generator

Let’s try a totally different scene with OurDream. I don’t want to generate a day light scene anymore. Instead, I will try a night scene. I will try a more movie scene, with camp fire, and waves behind. I will ask for a picture like this: A girl in a towel on the beach at night sitting by the camp fire with moonlight.

Let’s see the result. And the image is quite dramatic, there is a story in the picture. I can see the light from the fire reflected on the skin, and the waves behind, it feels like a romantic scene from a movie.

It is quite a high contrast scene. And I think I want to test its ability to render scenes and moods rather than just photorealism. OurDream did a great job in terms of lighting, the contrast between the warmth of the light from the fire and the cool moon light.

AI Generated Video Realism Compared

It’s the last of the “did I just make it do that” category and is, of course, video. This is a feature that both of these AI girls can do, and one is definitely more eager to please when it comes to creating video.

For this test, I wanted to challenge the Candy AI Video Generator to animate an AI model and assess the quality of movement, facial expressions, and body language.

I generated a short video where I emphasized the need for a natural flow of movements, a good posture, and eye contact while looking confident. My main interest was to analyze the quality of the animation.

Does it look cartoonish or does it look like a video of a person that is trying to convey emotions?

The video looked professionally shot. Movement, posture, eye contact, and lighting were all top-notch. The video looked like it was shot in a studio as all the above elements were optimized to provide a good viewing experience.

OurDream Video Generator

For the OurDream Video Generator, I tried a different approach. Instead of focusing on the posing, I focused on immersion. I tried to create a video that has more of an environmental aspect to it.

I asked for a video with better lighting, interaction, emotions, and movement. I focused on finding out whether the transition between different facial expressions looked natural.

The video looked more immersive. The lighting matched the environment and the character’s movement had a softer flow. The video did not feel staged, as much as the previous one.

Candy AI Subscription Pricing

Here’s what the pricing plan looks like: As you can see, the “Regular Price” is $12.99. However, the 12-month plan is discounted by up to 70%, with a price of $3.99 per month.

The 3-month plan is discounted at $7.99 per month. Prices may vary depending on the promotion of the month. With a paid plan, you’ll get unlimited chat conversations with your AI girlfriend, 100 free tokens per month, the ability to un-blur photos, create new photos, make AI calls, and quicker responses.

This is in line with what other users have said about the premium plan unlocking all of Candy AI’s features. Note that tokens are required for photo creation and AI calls. Here’s what the token packages look like:

Candy AI Token Pricing

The smallest package you can buy is 100 tokens for $9.99. The largest package is 3,750 tokens for $299.99. Sometimes you’ll get bonus tokens with your purchase (+10% or +25% of your total).

Again, this is what other users have reported. Tokens are used for creating photos and sending voice messages, so this is something you’ll have to factor into the cost of owning an AI girlfriend if you plan on doing either of those things regularly.

Many users have reported that it’s easy to burn through tokens if you like creating lots of photos or sending voice messages.

OurDream Subscription Pricing

If you click on the Subscribe button and check the OurDream pricing, you might notice that it’s currently 75% off for Valentine’s Day. That means that the prices will be lower than they are otherwise.

In this screenshot, you can see the price of the Premium Monthly plan is $19.99, down from the usual price of something like $39.99 (this is what’s advertised on other reviews and help articles).

The Premium plan is the plan that gives you access to almost everything: 1,000 DreamCoins per month, unlimited text, unlimited audio, image, and video generation, voice calls, and character posting – all the multimedia options.

As you may have seen if you’ve searched around, there’s also an annual plan that’s more affordable (closer to $9.99/month annually) and comes with initial coins plus the monthly amount. They seem to run sales fairly often (there’s a 75% off deal right now), so their “listed” prices might not be what most people are actually paying.

OurDream Token Pricing

The third image is a snapshot of the Dreamcoins pricing for OurDream. From what I can gather, rather than having all the features locked into the monthly subscription, OurDream has a “currency” called Dreamcoins which you need to pay for a lot of features, such as generating an image (apparently it costs around 10-20 coins to generate an image), using the voice calling feature (around 50 coins a minute), and generating a video (apparently this can cost hundreds of coins depending on the length of the video).

Based off what users have said, and OurDream’s own help center, the prices seem to be roughly what is shown here.

In the image, you can see three different packages of Dreamcoins available to purchase: 1,000 coins for $11.99, 5,000 coins for $49.99 (at $10 per 1,000 coins, that’s a ~20 discount on average), and 20,000 coins for $159.99 (at $8 per 1,000 coins, that’s a ~33 discount on average).

If you’re going to be generating lots of images or videos of a considerable length, it’s likely that purchasing one of the larger packages will reduce the cost significantly.

It seems that the subscription includes a monthly allowance of coins, but if you need more coins you can purchase more (to go over your monthly allowance and generate more images and such).

Pricing Insights for Candy AI and OurDream

So after actually taking a look at the product on offer from both platforms, that’s what the pricing actually looks like. As mentioned, Candy AI costs $12.99 a month on its own but, as seen in the screenshots above, they also offer multi-month plans discounted heavily from that baseline.

Candy AI also utilizes a “token” system to generate media such as photos, voice recordings and phone calls, so although there is a monthly subscription price, it still costs tokens to generate things even if you have a subscription.

OurDream seemed to be similar in nature but the list price was typically a bit higher before discounts. In the image you see the monthly premium plan listing at $39.99/mo and during this sale its listed at $19.99.

The premium plan is also Dreamcoins plus it gives you a monthly allocation of image, video, and voice credits. So the monthly fee is all inclusive with a ton of generation credits.

The pricing on just the Dreamcoins themselves is the more you purchase, the lower the price per coin, but like the other platform, it is also used for things like animated videos and images.

One last thing to keep in mind is that both tools have frequent sales and special offers, so prices fluctuate. The prices I’ve listed here were correct at the time of writing, but please check the sites themselves before purchasing a subscription or tokens.

Candy AI Unique Feature

When I saw this screenshot in Candy AI, my eyes widened slightly, simply because this is not your run-of-the-mill chat interface. Candy AI has a thing called Live Action (Beta v2), and this particular screenshot is of something that looks like a leveling system more than anything else.

Instead of the usual chatbot-style options you’d see on any tool, you’re looking at a sort of progress bar, as well as a set of what appear to be unlocked and locked “actions,” and this whole thing is connected to an experience/XP meter that seems to fill up as you chat with your character.

It kind of looks like a fusion of gamification unlockables and chat AI, wherein completing more chats and/or tasks somehow “levels up” your character’s actions and scenes.

This was a surprising discovery, and something I’ve never really seen on other tools; it’s not just chat, but it looks like a progression system that’s trying to keep you coming back for more.

OurDream Unique Feature

Conversely, this OurDream screenshot dropped me into a completely different environment. Instead of gamification, the unique feature I want to call out here is its focus on community, which it refers to as the Dreamer Program. Instead of unlocking actions, you’re unlocking people.

You’re presented with a list of creators or users (“Dreamers”) along with their follower counts and engagement stats, almost like some kind of mini social network that’s built into the platform.

It appears to be some kind of system wherein users can create and share their own characters, follow their favorite accounts, and engage with the broader community.

Any kind of system like that is going to introduce a social element to the AI girlfriend sim platform that most tools simply don’t have.

I was somewhat surprised to see how this tool fused individual AI chat experiences with user-generated content and a sort of community leaderboard.

Candy AI Safety

Candy AI has things like encrypted chat and says it has secure processing, but is a little light on the details. Multiple people have said that things aren’t end-to-end encrypted, and that things may be subject to content review, so even in “adult” mode, nothing is totally safe.

That said, they do however seem to have a good content scanner to help them abide by the rules and still allow adult mode. So if you like your restrictions strict this might not be the platform for you, but if you like dirty talk then sure. Sometimes.

OurDream Safety

OurDream seems to be a bit more upfront and less restrictive with more of a self-regulating policy. Less restrictive in that you have to opt-in and out of things, and it’s not as likely to shut you down mid sentence unless you start asking for something very clearly against the rules.

More self-regulating in that you have to be more careful and police yourself and try not to get anything too obscene or illegal. At least that’s what people are saying in the reviews.

Candy AI Support

Candy AI’s support is somewhat of a mixed bag. It’s not as if there isn’t any support, but it isn’t always clear where to find answers, and some users have had better luck than others with regards to getting responses to questions.

Some users in review forums mention that the Discord server is quite helpful, but that support tickets often take a while to answer.

OurDream Support

OurDream’s support seems a bit more straightforward. There are more options for support as well as user-driven resources available due to their focus on community-created content.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that all issues are resolved quickly and efficiently, but there does seem to be more of a support presence.

Conclusion

So which is better? Well, if you want more character customization and a bigger personality, Candy AI is a fun place to play. If you want more story-based content, and more interaction with the rest of the community, OurDream might be more your style.

However, the base price is a bit higher. There are still kinks to be worked out in both, and there are some pleasant surprises with both. Ultimately, the choice between the two just depends on what you’re looking for: instant chemistry, or a developing relationship.
